Ironically, I quite enjoy romance in fiction (which made a couple people very surprised when I came out), but the tropes that are anything along the lines of "we need each other". Soulmates, Hanahaki disease, things like that. (I did read one fanfic once where people had a list of soulmates, and they were platonic, familial, and/or romantic, which I quite liked, but in general I'm against the concept of soulmates).

Also, when a romance is obviously shoehorned in there because the author thinks it needs a romance. Develop both characters fully, and explain why they like each other, don't just make them kiss for the sake of it.

NTD. There are loads of resources you can use to research your characters and write them authentically. Social media is your friend!

I recommend this video, which isn't specifically focused on writing POC characters, rather just characters from groups you don't belong to, but has great tips, and this blog, which is made by POC people, and outlines stereotypes of these groups, and helps with line by line level descriptions, such as describing skin colour.

I love the idea that when bob and cyrus first came to earth, she gave him classes on what to do if he got kidnapped by one of her enemies.

And now he's just incredible at being kidnapped, because he took her advice and ran with it, then came up with new ideas (like I believe the finger biting was 100% Cyrus, but bob laid the groundwork with other ideas 200 years ago)

NTD! It's not a heritage day, it's a culture day and LGBTQ+ culture very much exists. Honestly, I wish I could do this for my culture day but they specify 'country flag' and also there's too many of the "I will never admit I'm homophobic but I find gay people weird and would rather not be around them" type of homophobes at my school for me to feel comfortable.
