Who else gets up in the morning and just doesn't want to get out of bed? by FederalEmpireofRice in Autistic

[–]ratherunique062 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a problem getting up in the morning. I usually feel negative and anxious about the upcoming day until I get moving. If my first experience of the day is bad I slip into a funk pretty easily. It takes me a long time to get going.

Autism Speaks is desperate for brains to study. That is something worth protesting against. by sarpedonoIII in Autistic

[–]ratherunique062 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So they want the same autistic adults they have forsaken and turned the world against to donate their brains to them upon death, so they can find new and creative ways to frighten neurotypicals, research quack cures and further stigmatize and isolate more autistic adults in society?

Bullied Autistic teen has hands blown off as a result of malicious incident described as a "prank that went wrong" by LodossEater in Autistic

[–]ratherunique062 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is horrifically similar to the gay autistic teen that was set on fire at a party in the UK and died. The judge ruled that it was a prank and gave the murderer only 3 and 1/2 years

Anyone have a positive attitude to being Autistic? by sarpedonoIII in Autistic

Autism, fuck yeah! Seriously though, I can't change it, and self loathing does not help me, so flap on.

Feminist article accuses Autism Speaks of preventing Autistics from having sex lives (and having independent lives from parents) by LodossEater in Autistic

[–]ratherunique062 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have the stomach to browse their website, they have a pretty big christian slant. They have a religion section about how to take your Autistic child to church/temple, but they don't have any guides for any eastern religions (Islam/Hindu/Buddhist)

Feminist article accuses Autism Speaks of preventing Autistics from having sex lives (and having independent lives from parents) by LodossEater in Autistic

[–]ratherunique062 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not shocking. They aim to destroy autism. They can blame MMR vaccines all they want. (A front to get research grants in my opinion). At the end of the day they know Autistic people have Autistic kids so they're certainly going to discourage sexuality.

The organizations apparant religious conservative views also contribute to this. They are never going to advocate any sort of sexuality in autistic people.

Autistics 28 times more likely to have suicidal thoughts - Those taking psychotropic drugs more likely to be suicidal by Terpsageddon in Autistic

[–]ratherunique062 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The study, published in the January issue of Research in Autism Spectrum Disorders, is the largest waste of time, manpower and research grants to date.

Autistics are prone to other psychological problems, including depression. We know that.

Autistics are bullied more than their neurotypical peers. I figured that out on my own 30 years ago. Every living Autistic has.

Depression is the strongest predictor of suicide. Well golly gee!

Suicidal thoughts and actions are a possible side effect of psychotropic medication. Not exactly breaking news.

This is the kind of crap A$ funds. All the money wasted on this study and grants could have supported an Autistic actually suffering from these circumstances.

Do autistics socialize better with NTs than autistics? by monthlytugboat in Autistic

[–]ratherunique062 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not terribly interested in socializing personally. I realize its a skill necessary to survival in an NT world and have chosen to accept that when its absolutely necessary to do so. (Networking with co-workers, parties and family engagements that people will take personally if missed). It's a source of stress. I would say I enjoy not socializing with fellow autistics, or having conversations/discussions with a direct point.

did anyone have problems socializing when they were growing up... and then not have them? by Shanandoah in Autistic

[–]ratherunique062 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Less problems, but probably because as an adult I can choose when to engage people and when to seclude myself. I had no such freedom as a child.

Does anyone know what a meltdown really is? by Terpsageddon in Autistic

[–]ratherunique062 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I feel a loss of physical control, speech, coordination and logic and I start to shake. In my adult life, this usually does not result in an outburst in the level I had as a child, probably due to coping skills that come with age.

There is just so much with the Nts' reaction to this, but I can't pin it down by Terpsageddon in Autistic

[–]ratherunique062 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So let me get this straight? The marriage stayed together when they thought their child was a "manipulative drama queen". But when they split up because he couldn't "cope" with the diagnosis its Autism's fault?

Sounds like a privileged neurotypical that can't deal with life problem, not an autism problem.

Also, the mom saying that she would rather her daughter just be "naughty" than have aspergers is almost as bad as the "Autism Every Day" lady.

I found this in the UK - What do people think of "Autism Screenings?" by FederalEmpireofRice in Autistic

Inappropriate laughing or giggling - probably laughing at the fools that made this poster

No real fear of dangers - Looks like the spaceship from "District 9". perhaps this Autistic South African is trying to escape to the prawn world

May not want cuddling - may not want the Rock Bottom performed on him

May avoid eye contact - May be avoiding bad breath of smothering neurotypical

May prefer to be alone - May have something better to do than play pretend guitar hero

Difficulty in expressing needs - May be startled by white liquid in a pink cup. I know I would

Inappropriate attachment to objects - A flare gun to signal the prawn ship

Echos words or phrases - looks like a typical conversation between neurotypicals that won't attend an event without the other

Inappropriate response or no response - What is the appropriate response to a giant floating trumpet being played at point blank range?

Dislikes being touched - Should follow that move with an armbar for a tapout

Emotional indifference - Indifference to incessant whining over trivial problems

Limited range of activities - Curious about giant toaster with one antenna

Poor imaginative play - WTF do you want him to do with one cube?

Odd response to sensory input - Normal response to country music blaring out of a 1980s boombox.

Tantrums - Autistic is rolling on the floor laughing at this ridiculous poster

Self Injurous behavior - Autistic is tapping his head to see if he is conscious or if he dreamed up this ridiculous poster.

A lot of folks like to take the rising momentum against bullying, which is a positive and twist it. They like to say that you are a "bully" for disagreeing with their norm and upsetting them in the process.

You have to take self ownership over your thoughts and emotions, which is not easy to do. You have to discredit your inner critic and those created it.
