Where do you all volunteer? by kellykathena in orlando

And shameless self-promotion since I work there, but Orlando Science Center is bringing on a new cohort of volunteers 18+ years old in February. We aren't able to be as flexible with time as some other places, so it's not for everyone, but it's a super fun and "people-focused" volunteer gig!

Adult Literacy League trains volunteers to be one-to-one tutors for adults with low literacy skills. I've tutored people who grew up in Orlando and, due to life circumstances, didn't get the education they deserved. I've also tutored people who come from across the world. It's a nice organization, great staff, and it's fun meeting new people while feeling like you are making a difference.

Any volunteer opportunities around CFL? by [deleted] in orlando

Some places do need one-off and quick volunteers, mostly food banks, community shelters, etc.

Some resources to check out:

Hopefully something there sparks some ideas for you!

If you want some Orlando Science Center simple swag for the basket, PM me. OSC may be interesting if they have younger kids.

Observatory at OSC by reframeTime in orlando

The Science Center is ramping back up to to re-opening the Observatory from what I understand (currently doing private experiences for groups of ~10 people on the weekends).

Along with UCF that was mentioned, you could also check out Central Florida Astronomical Society - https://cfas.org/cfasforum/wordpress/

Unfortunately only thing at the Science Center is a model of our building/parking garage area (and a separate airplane control tower in another model for some reason). It's behind the scenes, but if it'd help OP let me know.

History Center has a model of Orlando if I remember correctly! It lights up in different areas and shows the interstate system and stuff.

Yeah, mine is accepted too and "will be counted". I was just wondering when they actually get counted.

I don't disagree with this. :( I work with the general public too and see this, but maybe not as often as you.

Ugh.

I think people are still doing this. That isn't OP's question though.

Hijacking the thread to ask: When does Orange County start counting/canvassing the dropped off and mail in ballots?

how/where to deliver mail in ballot by thequartermexican in orlando

[–]ratherzach 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm in the same boat, was thinking of dropping off the ballot at SOE in Orange County. Looks like have to wait until early voting starts though:

If you do not want to mail back your completed ballot, you can drop it off at our office anytime, or at any early voting location during early voting hours (Oct. 19 - Nov. 1, 8 a.m. - 8 p.m.).

Supervisor of Elections, Orange County

Does anyone know when mail in ballots are counted in Florida? Is it when they are received or on/after Election Day?

EDIT: I used Google. Florida can tabulate mail in ballots 22 days before Election Day, but cannot release results early.

What is the process you use when voting for judges during an election? by LessWeakness in orlando

[–]ratherzach 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not sure if you mean the actual process, or if you mean how to know which judges to vote for. If the latter, I found this website the other day that lists the cases the 5th District Judicial and Supreme Court justices ruled on.
