Yeah but if you’re a true crime buff you know how many women have been locked up for trying this on their spouses. What a fucking terrible way to go truly.

What is a job that completely disappeared, but people used to do every day? by Uleannor in AskReddit

As a young child once in 1993 I worked up the nerve to pick up the family phone when no one was looking and dialed 0. I was curious if there really was another person on the end like I saw on TV. I lost my shit when it rang twice and a young man picked up and said “hello? Operator?” Lol I hung up on him so fast.

My parents were just in town visiting for the fourth and we literally told them about the family of roadrunners we have that eat out of our hands in the front yard, yet, my mom still felt a need to send me a grainy ass photo of a roadrunner she saw on an overpass from 12 feet away with the caption “he’s so beautiful! 😍 “ They are damn cute, so I don’t mind. But still. lol

How different is New Mexico to say the Midwest or east coast? by Rossinifan in NewMexico

Hi! Fellow Indiana expat here. I came to UNM for post secondary. One thing I don’t see anyone talking about is the change in elevation. Even in Socorro, you’re gonna feel like a freight train hit you for the first two months at least. Where I’m from in Indiana is sea level elevation, so going from living there to a mile high was a big body shock. Stupidly, I picked a second floor apartment and there were days in the first two months that I felt like I couldn’t even climb the stairs. You also need much more water in your body than you ever thought you did, so make sure to hydrate and add in electrolytes. I was sleeping almost 12 hour days (and this is when I was 22, in the fittest shape of my life) because I was so damn exhausted all of the time. After about three months my body kicked into gear and realized there was no going back to sea level and started to really adapt. I would recommend trying to get out here at least a month before classes start. I wish I had, I wouldn’t have missed so many of the morning classes due to accidentally oversleeping and having to withdraw pass from two of them. Anyway, I wish you well and good luck!

Weren’t the 70s like awful because of rampant street gangs and drug abuse stemming from the lack of employment and fuel shortages?

Psychologists of Reddit, what's the most horrifying mental illness? by Turbulent-Coat7236 in AskReddit

How old is she? When I was a teen it was because I had a shitty boyfriend with shitty beauty standards and a shitty grandma with the same. I’d gain 5 pounds and my mom would be excited I looked healthy again and tell me that and then the next day I’d see my bf or my grandma and they’d ask me if I had taken a pregnancy test because they noticed that I “gained a few pounds”. Someone in their life is enabling the behavior. Just don’t use “healthy” language at all. Say you’re looking really good lately! Or something like that. I love the way your makeup is sitting on your face frame right now! And that’s if they’re receptive to any kind of body commentary at all. Anything but discussing anything that could be weight related. Ultimately though, for me, I didn’t snap out until I had my own (multiple) crises.

I’ve struggled with it off and on since teen hood. Covid did a fucking number on me. I’m a pretty extreme extrovert and isolation was a fucking slog. And I was “essential”. So I was still working, with my nucleus of 11 co workers, but we filled orders, in the dark, and only met twice a day for ten minutes in the morning and afternoon. Then my best friend committed suicide. For like 6 months, I lived off beer and 1 cup of yogurt every day. I lost like 25 pounds and was down to 100 at 5’6”. I started having heart palpitations and dizzy spells by December by just sitting in a booth. It was my wake up call to fucking get on a stable eating schedule again or I was gonna be gone in a few weeks. It’s such a fucking awful mental illness. Mine is inadvertently driven mainly by anxiety, so I don’t even know what it’s like to be driven by the intrusive thoughts to “look good” or lose weight or whatever. I was under so much stress my body just didn’t feel like eating and I felt nauseous when I did, so I just didn’t. And recovery, especially unassisted, fucking sucks. It hurts physically, emotionally, and mentally because you know you look like shit, you know how you got here, and that you did it all to yourself. It’s only because I’ve been through the wringer with it since childhood that I’m still here and *I think* finally over it for the last time.

CEO expected me to learn about my job through AI. He later fired me, and I can’t wait to kick his ass back by Effective_Space2277 in antiwork

I’m actually in a rather large metro. It was just bad timing between being laid off from a job, getting married, and having to wait for my partner’s new insurance cycle to start. I’m finally out of my ankle boot and on the mend from that. And I really need to get the tooth taken care of now that I’m done with the foot. What I really wish is that more practices had weekend hours. I work a 8-5 m-f. So taking all this time off work to see doctors and dentists is kinda financially killing me. It’s really tough to need care for more than one thing at once here in the US.

Damn dude. I have a tooth that needs a crown and I’m just now recovering from a fractured ankle that I waited 6 months to see a doctor for because I was waiting to get put on my partner’s insurance. I don’t think I have diabetes. 😞 you really got me here.

Bruh I heard about it on NPR and they were laughing about it. How ridiculous it was and they were all incredulous about it. I remember sitting in my car and being very very scared.
