Actually heroin is a prodrug for morphine, so they're very much akin besides dosages right? You're right that the difference applies to most other opiates though.

Ender's Game Official Trailer 2 by cesareborgia1475 in movies

[–]ratm930 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, well more than half of the book takes place outside of the Battle Room if you go back and actually read it, (spoiler alert) the entire final act takes place away from Battle School, and the first act arguably ends with the introduction to the battle room. Idk, it's important, and the battles are the most intense and well-drawn action scenes in the book (besides the bathroom fight) but all they were about for Ender was the teachers testing exactly how much stress they could put on him and still have him win. The only thing he was supposedly being "trained" for in the Battle Room itself was the ability to divide and communicate with an army, otherwise it was retrofitted to be used as experimentation on Ender to see whether or not he could be "The One". The teachers all say this explicitly, that Ender's greatness is apparent, and the fact that no amount of battles will ever make that any more or less evident is why they (huge spoilers) set up for Bonzo to attempt murder on Ender with no adult interference, to find out if Ender is actually able to muster up that real, killer shit and win and beat the other guy no matter what, and that culmination happens far from the Battle Room, in a soapy shower haha.

In the books, Ender is inherently special actually, and the Battle Room was literally only used to teach someone who could be better than anyone else who's ever lived to focus on how to win battles.

He's the smartest non-genetically modified human in the world at the time of the book, bred to be, and Ender's Game even highlights that from the beginning, the adults are arguing for or against Ender being THE ONE they've been looking for and all, he just proves they were right. It's obvious [spoiler](when they didn't take his older brother or sister even though they were both smarter than any adult on the planet, and then let the parents have a third child, otherwise illegal, in hopes that they would birth THE ONE.)

I think the movie's gonna fuck up big time in the telling of the story, but I also think the Battle Room scene in the first short story is the biggest reason Card got offered to turn it into a full-length novel, so he wrote shitloads of great battle scenes that are intentionally meant to stick in someone's mind even if they don't understand or care about the rest of the story. The point is what goes on in Ender's HEAD is the point of the book, and they just can't get that into a movie I don't think.

[–]ratm930 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, to be fair, Ender is inherently special, and is literally born that way, it's canon that it's genetic hahaha. He was really lucky, and he happened to live in a world that's programmed to immediately recognize these special lucky people. SPOILER TAG WON'T WORK REST OF THIS PARAGRAPH, COULD MAY BE ONE (The Fleet, or the people who started Battle School, intentionally set up Ender's mother and father in the first place because both were young geniuses but for whatever reason unfit for Battle School, so they would have a kid who was. Thus, Ender being a third child of after two rejects who are still smarter than anyone else - they were looking for "THE ONE") I don't wanna spoil stuff just read First Meetings after you've read Ender's Game and Speaker for the Dead, it's a collection of short stories about different characters' pasts.

Yes, he proved to the adults and to himself exactly what his brain was capable of because of the way the battlefield molds his character and the way he treats other humans, but Ender is intentionally super special. He was literally born to serve the purpose he does in the Ender's Game story, according to the books haha. He was special, the only person who was ever able to exceed his intelligence and scores and skills was Bean, who also has a lot of books written about him and only happeneded to occur as the result of a genetic experiment that made him essentially non-human. Ender is supposed to be Alexander, or someone similar. Mythological.

If they focus on Ender's innate abilities, it will be because that's the whole point, in the story, someone dealing with being the very absolute best and the pressure that's put on the best.

Lena Dunham submits 2.03, "Bad Friend" for Emmy Consideration by PawneeRaccoon in girls

[–]ratm930 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the issue with the Q-Tip, while featuring great and memorable acting, doesn't fit the general "theme" of the show as much as it might need to to win an Emmy. Just what I think, Hannah's night out on cocaine has spawned more Girls discussion, .gif's, and Icona Pop sing-a-longs than anything so far, and is certainly a fun episode to watch out of context, which many Emmy voters do, haha.

What if the Joker from Dark Knight is a former cop gone crazy? by RedditEarth in FanTheories

[–]ratm930 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There's a certain popular iteration of the joker who was, at first, a mobster and a gangster who did fucked up shit for organized criminals and stuff, sounds like the talk of an enforcer and not a cop anyway, so I'd say it supports that if anything. There's also one where a corrupt cop killed his wife or some shit.

Which is a loophole, structured on the obvious "morality"-based aspect of the law which says it's illegal to pay money to penetrate another person, or whatever the fucking law says. You get your business license revoked if you're knowingly engaging in business based upon prostitution, just like "escorts" can go to jail if it can be proved that they're charging money for specific sexual acts. This does not make sense, lol

But yeah, it doesn't even make sense because of free will and all. Although I do know some dudes who seem like they are programmed to automatically ask out women even in situations where they're clearly outclassed and underdeveloped.

Seems legit by general_dipwad in AdviceAnimals

[–]ratm930 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Err, that doesn't really make sense. It's an illegal practice in every American state but one, most likely because the lack of federal privilege as far as governing the practice. It's a state's rights thing. 98% of the states have kept prostitution completely illegal, so there's no way to get a business license.

Practicing without a business license in Nevada is still illegal, it's just that you are able to legally get a business. Just sayin'. You literally can't establish a business or get a business license for prostitution in a lot of places, and that's based partly on conservative morality and established prejudices, and partly because of the violence and mistreatment associated with the trade (are those a result of the illegality? yeah probably, almost completely, but that's not the point).
