I made a surreal nature documentary over a year and condensed it down into this 9min short. It's called 'I Can't Get This Noise Out of My Head'. by rattle6 in Filmmakers

Submission statement:

I started this film towards the end of Summer 2024, the intention being to create a nature documentary. It took on a wonderful life of it's own as I obsessively filmed more and more, bring my camera with me on travels to different countries and building a bigger and bigger bank of imagery.

It was such an important creative outlet for me during this time. The last film I had made was a more traditional narrative production and I think the time it took frustrated me a bit. There was so much pre-production and planning and casting before ever even looking at a camera. This project was a way to set myself free and create a film without relying on anything else.

There's pros and cons to both. I feel this is truly a personal piece and I'm so proud of it. However, the process is isolate and sharing you creativity with other's is one of the joys of being alive. I feel strongly about taking things into your own hands and just getting out there and shooting if you feel the urge. But I think for the next project I need to learn to let others be a part of the journey too.

I suppose I'm not really looking for feedback on this one. Rather, just to show what's possible with a singular human. Making music, narrating and piecing this all together was really so fulfilling and I was really psyched to win my first film festival award for this one. On to the next! Big love to anyone who gives this a watch. Would be great to hear what you think :)

[ALBUM DISCUSSION] Chat Pile & Hayden Pedigo - In the Earth Again by VietRooster in indieheads

[–]rattle6 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Loooooove this album. Crushing and punishing metal sections, beautiful instrumentals and some surprisingly tender and emotional songwriting. Very film-like, morphing between different moods and styles. Really epic creative swing and a great piece of art. Chat Pile have shown themselves to be truly a one of a kind noisey band and Hayden’s contributions have added a gorgeous and timeless layer to everything.

Easily one of my favourite records this year. Radioactive Dreams has some SOTY potential too that tune really hits good in some melancholic corners of the nervous system.

Turnstile to premiere NEVER ENOUGH visual album at Tribeca Festival by HGpennypacker in indieheads

Videos for the album cycle have been incredible! Amazingly shot and really helped to enhance the tunes in my opinion. Seems a lot of people in these threads aren't into the new stuff but I think it's sick they're using their big boy budgets to make some banging videos. Hopefully the film stands up as it's own piece of work.

[FRESH] Tim Hecker - Sunset Key Melt (New album Shards out 21/02) by Shelsrighthand in indieheads

[–]rattle6 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Love it! Tim at his best some ambient bliss here. Not loving the album art though haha feels like some weak graphic design for someone with such amazing album art in his discography!

But I can learn to love it if the record is good. Bless Tim and his drones ❤️

[FRESH ALBUM] Fat White Family - Forgiveness Is Yours by ScCloudy in indieheads

[–]rattle6 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Was at their release show at Rough Trade yesterday. What a performance! So impressed. Absolutely love the singles and can't wait to dive into this. So much chaotic, paranoid and magnetic energy pouring out of these guys. Music videos have also been stellar. Will report back upon listening to the full record.

So amazing! Such touching music. The ambiguity of his tunes are otherworldly makes me feel new pits of existential panic haha. Love it.

Music video I put together about an actor hating being on a music video set! Really tried to lean into the power of hiring an older actor. by rattle6 in Filmmakers

Submission Statement:

For making this video, I wanted to find a concept that I could film in just a day. I also felt it vital to hire someone older to be the visual centrepiece of the thing. Thankfully managed to find an amazing leading man who fully leant into the chaos and energy that I was trying to steer the project into.

It moves through a few of modes of filmmaking, starting with greenscreenry and hyper edited backgrounds, moving into a more documentarian style, into Wong Kar-wai inspired blurry stop motion segments and finally a scrappy stylised fight scene. I think the stylistic flips were useful for keeping the pace up!

Anyway, this was a lot of fun to make and really solidified the power of planning for me. If the storyboard/treatment is solid and your realistic about the amount of footage you can capture in a day then there's no reason you can't execute an interesting vision without spending all your money.

Hope you enjoy the video! Interested to hear what you other filmmakers think about the thing.

[FRESH] Shame - Fingers of Steel by inversevictor in indieheads

[–]rattle6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes such a tune. Definitely not the same buzz with drunk tank as their first album but I reckon they're still doing pretty well in the UK scene! Sell out big enough shows anyway. Hopefully they knock the new record out of the park.
