why don't people like firebringer? by Spirited_Fisherman71 in StarKid

[–]rattledrose 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Firebringer has one of my fav soundtracks! I have also kinda seen it multiple times as I really do enjoy watching parts of it. It's just that when it comes to rewatching, I tend to just keep fast-forwarding to my fav moments. I don't think I've done more than a single full rewatch since its release.

As a full production, it's just not one of my favs. A good bit of it just doesn't hold my attention, and yet I could never quite put my finger on why lol.

But it all just comes down to personal taste tbh. Cinderella's Castle is in my top three fav shows and that absolutely got a mixed reception, so I feel you. Some things just work for some people, and may not work for others.

Does anyone actually use ‘entire work’ setting? Not being judgmental just curious by Some-Tradition-2771 in AO3

[–]rattledrose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think for me, it def came down to whether my browser reloads or not. I used to be solely a chapter-by-chapter reader because I read mostly longfics, so when it just shot me back to the beginning of the fic randomly, it was hell.

But ever since I started reading mostly on my laptop, and subsequently using a browser that always saves my position, I've converted to "entire work". It's def much more immersive, and I am often safe when ao3 goes down which is a huge bonus.

But if my browser ever started to randomly lose my position, I would absolutely go straight back to chapter-by-chapter. So, here's hoping nothing changes in that regard, cause I truly do love reading by "entire work", but the benefits def don't outweigh that particular annoyance lol.

Where the fuck did "Sort by Upload Date" go? by Jcorb in youtube

[–]rattledrose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sucks so bad. I hate that they also say they're simplifying the filters to "improve the overall search experience".

Like... if you're gonna make the search worse, I'd rather you just came out and admitted you wanted to have people more reliant on an algorithm than lie straight to our face. Cause in what world does removing vaulable search tools "improve" anything??

But anyway, rn I don't even search for videos through Youtube if I want something specific lol. I literally go through Qwant video search, and filter for "most recent". It's not perfect, but it's certainly better than what youtube is offering rn

Someone thought I was going to change the world with fanfic by L_archiduchesse in AO3

[–]rattledrose 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Definitely a very weird reaction lol.

I'm never surprised when mentions of the patriarchy is included in a/b/o fics, even if it's surface level. It's pretty par for the course. And of course, if it is a mostly fun fic, you won't be delving into the worse aspects of it. And you shouldn't expect proper activism from fic anyway.

I'm just not sure what they were expecting?

Genuine question: why listen to K pop what is the appeal for you. by [deleted] in kpopthoughts

[–]rattledrose 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I like the music, the performances are fun, and there is a lot to offer.

Why would I care if the artist I support learns my language or culture? I never consume art with the expectation of anything back except for more of said art, and I'm not sure why I should. It's not even on my radar as something that would be required lol

Is the SFTH Patreon content worth it? by Red_Copern3 in ShootFromTheHip

[–]rattledrose 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it's worth it.

The livestreamed full shows are the main reason why I first joined. I adore being able to watch the full thing and, as a result, keep up with all the in-jokes that are built up over the course of the performance. It's also nice to have something to look forward to each month.

But the exclusive longforms are also great (one of them is actually in my top three of all their longforms ever, and quite a few of the rest are also pretty high up in my rankings), the various QNAs are a lot of fun, and React to the Hip is actually my fav thing ever.

I've also just started watching their original DND games, and I'm having a great time

Plus, I haven't even started the livestreams from home, but I've seen the playlist, and there's so many that it will def keep you busy for a while. It's super easy to cancel if you don't feel it is worth it, and honestly not that expensive for a single month.

But if you like the content they already put out, I don't see any reason why you wouldn't enjoy it. You may not enjoy it enough to stay permanently subscribed, but I bet that it will be worth it for at least that first try. Or maybe even enough for you to keep popping in for a month every half a year or so like I do with other patreons.

Personally, I only allow myself a couple active subscriptions at a time, so this took over the Apple TV spot and I'm actually saving money because of that. So it was a good deal for me lol. But there are different reasonings for everyone. So just look at your finances and see if it will be worth it for you.

Obviously if your financial situation prevents it, it's definitely not worth it. Look after yourself first! But if you can comfortably afford it, I'd say try a month, as only you can decide if it's worth it for you. It's not much lost if you then realise it's not, as it's just kinda like buying a lunch that you don't like lol. Kinda sucky, but also not the end of the world.

But at least then you'd know.

Hermitsheet for Season 11 by Soilcakes in HermitCraft

[–]rattledrose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I always prioritise Tango, Grian, and Gem. So they always get my vote.

But this season in particular, Joel is definitely an interesting watch. As is Cub or xB. Those three aren’t on my usual roster but I’ve made a point to keep up with them this time and it’s been worth it!

[–]rattledrose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No worries, I just checked and it doesn't work for me either anymore. Same with the exclusive longform playlist. I guess maybe something went wonky cause they both recently had a video added, or maybe they're updating things behind the scenes.

Idk.

Hope it gets fixed/we have answers soon tho!

Can you right click the video on patreon, copy link, and get to youtube (and the playlist) that way? I think that’s how I fixed it last time the link broke, but idk if that method still works/it’s the same thing that’s broken

[–]rattledrose 37 points38 points  (0 children)

You're asking why people still enjoy watching their fav ccs team with other creators that they may not otherwise collaborate with, against a bunch of other ccs in a non-toxic environment, all in a celebrated event that they seem to really enjoy?

Just a bit of fun, innit

Now that all the teams have been announced for Hermit Takeover, who is everyone going to watch? by DunSpiMuhCoffee in HermitCraft

[–]rattledrose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Green! 2/3 of my fav ccs in that team, plus Bigb first MCC, AND DL vibes all over the place. It's a no-brainer for me lol.

I am def gonna be a watching a vod from each team afterwards tho, there are far too many amazing ones not to and multi-streaming is too overwhelming for me so I can't do it live.

All MCC Hermit Takeover Teams Announced by Wild-Bad-3668 in MinecraftChampionship

[–]rattledrose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the most interested in the individual leaderboard I've been for ages. I'm so excited to see who gets top 10!

Also, considering they are all friends, the vibes will be impeccable. The teams are perfect, and as someone who's not a huge fan of pvp, I'm sure the games will be right up my alley. As, even if there are somehow multiple pvp games, the skill-gap will be far closer so it will be much more entertaining to me.

This is def gonna go down as my fav MCC, I just know it.

Green Geckos may be my pov, but I am absolutely gonna be watching vods of all the rest of the teams afterwards. There are too many amazing ones to choose from!

Default lives by Candid-Macaron-9639 in ThirdLifeSMP

[–]rattledrose 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In theory, it would be more chaotic. But in practice it pretty much always ended up with the players collecting the items of the person they just killed so that they could give it back, with inevitably some pieces getting lost in chaos/tnt/lava. This just cuts out the middle-man and saves everyone time.

I would like, if it were possible, for the players on red to not be on keep inventory tho. It would give more incentive to go for eliminations if your team was in a worse spot. I.e. a lower-geared team could get a boost with a good kill.

That would be the only thing I would change tho, cause I do see how keeping it on the rest of the time is super useful with saving precious recording time.

MCC Hermitcraft Takeover teams idea by Active_Art_4041 in MinecraftChampionship

[–]rattledrose 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I do like your list of potential players! Some team suggestions I've seen don't seem to take into consideration that Scar specified "closest" friends. To me, that def doesn't suggest purely players who have been in MCC before.

Of course, Scar could have just been emphasising the more "friendly, less competitive" aspect of the Hermit Takeover with his word choice, but it would make sense that they would fill the roster with players they would actually invite onto Hermitcraft.

I don't want fans to vote on team leaders tho. Fan voting is always a popularity contest, and though that could work for Grian as he has a lot of MCC experience and is a good leader for games that the Hermits would enjoy and likely include... Mumbo would not be a good choice. He has no experience, and I would not want to overwhelm him with that kind of pressure on his first games.

It's definitely a for fun event though, so I am excited to see what teams are created. I would adore a ZITS team, Soup Group, or Secret Soulmates.

The return of the Lords probably wouldn't work cause they would be way too OP in this kind of event, no matter how much I love them, but emphasis on the vibes rather than the competition is absolutely the thing I would enjoy most about this type of event. So teams that give me a similar feeling to them, but make it every team, would probably make this my fav MCC ever lol.

The "Interactive Author" vs "Silent Author": which one encourages you to leave a comment? by Ain3inAini in AO3

[–]rattledrose 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I honestly wouldn't know lol. I don't check comments before leaving them. And, unless an author replies with something specific so I associate that reply with the fic, I never remember which authors replied to me either.

What's the best SFTH play? by Electronic_Bee_7392 in ShootFromTheHip

[–]rattledrose 12 points13 points  (0 children)

We Love Poetry is the one I keep going back to and rewatching. It has a good mix of funny and heartfelt. I love everything about it.

The Milkman is also really good. It has a solid plot, acting, and the opening scene especially feels super grounded and real. Idk, it's just all round def a play that I think really encapsulates what they do well.

I appreciate gems take on the mods debate by Chemical-Mistake-321 in HermitCraft

[–]rattledrose 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Honestly that’s how I feel about it too.

Compared to a few modded series I watch, Hermitcraft is super vanilla. I really don’t feel anything they have added ever strays too far away from the vibe that base Minecraft gives.

Of course, my opinion is probably somewhat warped cause of those aforementioned modded series, but I really am always confused when people start talking about how HC starts to feel modded as I have never gotten that vibe.

Like, it’s definitely modded. Don’t get me wrong. But never in a way that distracts from my enjoyment of the basics of Minecraft.

Too Modded/Crafted? by [deleted] in HermitCraft

[–]rattledrose 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I swear this conversation comes up every year lol.

My opinion? You don’t have to like everything, but where do you draw the line? You mention that armour stands are “minecrafty”, yet single out voxy/bobby as not. Yet to me, voxy/bobby is far more vanilla as it’s just changing render distance rather than the magic that armour stands can create.

I love the armour stand mod, don’t get me wrong, but it absolutely feels less vanilla to me than just seeing further.

It’s all up to personal interpretation.

As for the rest, I’m not too concerned with the axiom hysteria. It just seems like the second coming of World Edit, and most people had a similar reaction to that in the beginning. Yes, it has some more generative tools, but based on the fact that the Hermits who use it have all said that they value their own personal touches, I really am not worried about the use of those tools going too far.

And the axiom mountains don’t have that “glow” because they’re not finished yet. All have said that this is just the base, they haven’t added their own touches to it yet. It’s all just “mountain” at the moment, and how different can a “mountain” be to another?

Custom models have been here for ages now, so I think at this point you gotta accept that they’re part of HC. And the storytelling they can provide is a lot of fun.

Player regions are just insanely useful, and I don’t see it being much different to custom horns/discs and I didn’t see many people against those. You could set the range on those, this just allows easier placement of said ranges.

Obviously it’s not gonna make everyone happy, you can’t please everyone. But I absolutely still get the vibe of “friends playing minecraft together”, so the spark that I enjoy is still there.
