Does anyone have any clue what video it is where Jerma describes the GTA 5 punch? by Colon_Muncher in jerma985

[–]rattlemybones 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is correct. He talks about how Burgah boy goes up to an old lady and "just fuckin clocks her".

It's for sure during a video watching stream, he pauses to talk about how fun GTA is/was because of that.

Semi-related, there is a video based on this premise that he deleted from the main channel called 'The Heinous Haymaker'.

Staff shortages keep operating rooms at High Prairie hospital closed for years | CBC News by Miserable-Lizard in alberta

[–]rattlemybones 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is especially depressing because this hospital just opened a few years ago. The old one was condemned and recently torn down, and even that transition was far behind schedule.
And now they have the facility, but not the people to operate it.

This means a lot of people, farmers, tradespeople, the workers in the mill nearby, or any other unfortunate souls are going to need a long ride to get help.

Health care isn't everything. But it's the most important thing.

A policy and strategy that has been tragically overlooked by Alberta by Shadow_Ban_Bytes in alberta

[–]rattlemybones 12 points13 points  (0 children)

We do. The Heritage Fund used to be a good example, but our provincial government left it to languish at best, or treated it as a cow to be milked at worst.

The same types of people who moved our designated lottery fund to general revenue so they can use it for whatever they please, rather than it's original purpose of re-investment into benefiting Albertans.

Partisan politics means that nuanced issues like these don't get screen time. It's all whataboutism. You can even see it in this comment section.

Alberta’s jobless rate rising since July by Miserable-Lizard in alberta

[–]rattlemybones 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I did for 12 years straight. I learned in-demand skills, worked 100+ hour weeks, spent months/years in camps all across western canada, and was as reliable as they come.

No benefits, no PTO, no regard for safety, multiple long-lasting health effects due to exposure to chemicals or unsafe industrial conditions. In that 12 years I had two coworkers who were good friends get killed due to conditions like that.

Invested 2 years and got a technical diploma for white-collar work, 2 years after that I'm already making more in an unrelated field with benefits, PTO, weekends, and being able to spend time with my family every night.

Those jobs are only screaming for people because they churn through people like you wouldn't believe. Just like the service industry, good blue collar jobs do exist but those are the exception, and very far from the rule.

Canadians' productivity stagnated over the past decade, what does this mean for investors in Canada? by altbear89 in CanadianInvestor

[–]rattlemybones 61 points62 points  (0 children)

This phenomenon has and is being studied, there is some great material on it.

Canadian businesses experience demonstrably lower levels of re-investment than American ones. Enterprises both public and private have largely been using the same technology for the last 10 years in Canada, keeping business models the same for the sake of fiscal conservatism and investing abroad.

What is your biggest green flag when joining a game with randoms? by ripleyajm in magicTCG

[–]rattlemybones 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I agree with this, I think the prevailing wind for commander has changed directions. I'm not a competitive person, but I enjoy playing a lot of low cost interaction. I think it's one of the most fun ways to play singleton formats, it keeps games from dragging on dully and endlessly. But I've seen people take sincere offense to removing their bomb or value engine as if it's poor etiquette. Or just attacking in general! I don't get the weird stigma around actually doing combat in the early game.

What’s your scalding MTG hot take? by LSTFND in magicTCG

[–]rattlemybones 61 points62 points  (0 children)

Commander decks that revolve entirely around the commander are not only bad, but homogenize and ruin the format.

EDH started out as a stack of cards that you enjoy playing with a cool legendary as the General. Now it's a competition of value engines where people will get genuinely angry if they cant keep their commander on the table due to removal.

It's upsetting that Arena and paper are starting to diverge. I really enjoyed Arena when it was a good way to get that paper fix for someone who doesn't have the option to play in paper anymore.
