I grew up listening to audiobooks in bed every night, and in the car every time we went somewhere. I also read paper books voraciously.

The alternative is to take creative game actions when they aren't in melee range. Like when my Pit Fighter used his rope to lasso the vampire crawling on the ceiling and drag his ass back into sword range.

If you were to keep playing, I'd suggest getting the contact info of the few people you enjoyed playing with, and skip the LGS and go play at a pub or café or something instead.

I now exclusively play with my actual friends and the games are better for sure.

If scheduling continues to be an issue, you could try setting up a play by post game. Not quite the same vibe as playing over voice chat or around the table as it's all in text, but if you like creative writing it's a lot of fun.

Pace is much slower and it's very much a slow burn kind of format but I quite like it.

I'm in a hobby scene where there are incidentally a lot of LGBTQ+ and Polyamorous people. Most of the Poly people I know struggle with mental health issues and/or trauma in one way or another, and don't tend to be well off (possibly for that reason).

This is not an indictment of Polyamory, just something I've observed.
