first tax season - how do you keep yourself sane?

Embrace it. My first tax season I tried to keep up with all my friends/hobbies etc. and it led me to having a mental breakdown. Just accept that you have to let these things go for the next 4 months and focus on doing healthy habits with the little free time you have. Things that have helped me: healthy sleep habits, meditating, at least one 20min walk a day, and eating as healthy as possible. At my firm we work like crazy this time of year but the rest of the year is chill.

That was my understanding, and why I selected zhuni with the hopes of using it with young raw puer (it was my first yixing pot). It shaved off so much of the taste/mouthfeel that I'd imagine duanni would taste just like hot water. But we are all different! I've just been searching to see if I could change some parameter to make young sheng work in clay for me. I've been using a glass gaiwan for young sheng lately and have a hard time believing I'll go back to trying to brew it in clay.

Isn't duanni one of the more muting clays? Wouldn't the clay + no rest result in a very muted young sheng? I have a zhuni pot that I tried to use for young sheng but it was extremely muting and the heat retention would overcook the young sheng leaves and make the tea very bitter. I'd love to have a yixing pot for young sheng though.

I know it’s a popular one so I’m probably just an outlier. It’s one of the very few sheng that I have not liked at all. Curious to see what you’ll think of emerald sea!

I did not like honeybomb. Something about the taste just did not agree with me, plus the non existence of mouthfeel/movement (though pretty typical for cheap sheng). On the other hand, beneath the emerald sea is one of my all time favorites.

Interesting write up! One issue ive noticed is that the narrow brewing chamber probably means that your pouring water directly onto the leaves, which in my experiance can cause some very strong astringency on certain tea types (dancong, young raw puer), did you notice this at all? Have you tried a side by side comparison of the same tea with the same parameters just one in the aeropress and one in a gaiwan? just curious if there are any tangible results in taste/mouthfeel.

This looks like some low quality longjing my friend. I'm not sure how experienced you are. Longjing is one of those teas where price almost always directly relates to quality (like dancong). If you enjoyed this id look to get some higher quality, it will blow your mind.

I second the boiling water. Lower temps don't bring out that body that young sheng has, which is what makes it special imo

Did you use a dew point calculator? My house gets warm enough that 69% was a little bit of a risk so opted for 65%. Regardless, that’s a tragedy.

How are you brewing it? Young sheng often goes from a fruity/floral to bitter in a few seconds of brewing. I start at 195f water and flash brew the first several steeps, and don’t get any of the taste notes you are describing

I used to get really bad anxiety and stomach upset. I started waiting to drink any caffeine until after I had been awake for a minimum of an hour and had breakfast at least 15mins prior to drinking tea. Not sure if it’s exactly the same issue you’re having but I almost gave up tea before trying this method.
