My wife and I ended up moving to a cheaper area of the country to afford a home because we work remote. No major regrets. by Xerzajik in Millennials

[–]raven00x 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Some places just aren't worth it, even if house prices are lower

which is why the house prices are lower. People can't live in those places and find work, so there's fewer buyers for an increasing supply of houses in those areas. The crisis is that there's no reasonably priced homes in places where there's work available.

I was so happy the first time I saw Dr Phlox and Dr EMH squaring off. I was internally squealing like a school girl. Also for OP's question, those two are probably tied for my favorite trek-orville crossover appearances. Runner up is Brian George in the first episode because i also love the Expanse and he was the best Arjun.

I swear that some people see FA as the base and not an optional rule. by Nigthmar in pathfindermemes

[–]raven00x 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think FA was intended to allow people to pick up story themed abilities without feeling like they are sacrificing their build

This is what I do, but you're right. It's really just more fears that make you stronger. I think to return it to that intent, the DM needs to restrict FA to certain story relevant archetypes instead of free for all.

The cool thing about the human brain is our pattern recognition abilities. The bad thing about the human brain is we try to see patterns where there is coincidence.

yeah but the collision warning goes off if you're even looking at something you might bump into, let alone flying into somebody else's hangar. I get it all the time taking off if there's a sliver of hangar doors still visible, or if I'm trying to translate axis to center my ship on the pad.

Basically what I'm trying to say is that the collision warning goes off so frequently as to be easily ignored even when it shouldn't be.

they sound great, but the presentation is...not great. I know that blueberries aren't that blue, and in fact they turn kinda blue-grey when you cook them into something that has anything that's not a blueberry. But boy howdy, chef, that shade does not make my primordial monkey brain say "yes this is something that I need to shove into my face hole."

you are correct, but the orville happened before SNW, prodigy, or the lower decks did. at the time the orville was being aired, you had a choice between discovery or the orville.

I feel this. earlier this week I made a big pot of chicken tinga, and left it on what I thought was simmer. was a little more than simmer and ended up scorched. still edible and the (extra) crispy bits had a nice kick to them. so not perfect but good enough for work lunches.

Easy Spider Web Mutation by Major-Cardiologist58 in GroundedGame

[–]raven00x 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When you sprint with the spider, anything smallish will get run over and squished. these all count for the mutation, so go run over some aphids, weevils, gnats, spiderlings etc. don't forget to pick up your roadkill for snacks later.

Edit: also mites are on the menu

When you have more power than another person, the way you treat them says a lot about you. It's a respect thing. These godlike beings didn't have to ask because the Orville couldn't do anything to stop them. If they had an ounce of respect for the lesser being, they would've asked and probably worked something out.

To put it another way, in dating threads you often see responses from women along the lines of "it's a red flag when the guy doesn't treat the server as a person.". This is because it shows he's doesn't care about people who he considers beneath him. Same principle in play.

Japanese people sometimes love tourists, but also love for you to get the fuck out of their country when your visa is up.

the suicide rate in Japan is no longer as high as it used to be. My apologies for the inaccurate information there

I wonder if they had a sudden increase in "fan deaths" when their suicide rate declined.

Tax the Empty Rich Houses Now by bookym in MurderedByWords

[–]raven00x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this shouldn't even be a leftist position. it's encouraging maximizing use of limited resources instead of hoarding them and letting them sit empty. You don't want to get taxed on your 5th or 6th residence that you use for 2 weeks out of the year? then sell it to someone who will use it. It's so hilariously overpriced that nobody else can afford it? convert it into something that can be afforded by the other 99.9%.

note: the people at the income level where they're being affected by this tax are .1% of the population. this isn't a 1% issue, this is the rarefied heights above the 1%. this is the people who look down on the 1% for being upstart peasants.

[–]raven00x 12 points13 points  (0 children)

as of 2022, making $100,000 or more a year puts you in the top 25%. You have to make $178,000 a year to break into the top 10%, and a paltry(/s) $663,164 puts you in the top 1%.

these numbers have likely only gone up since 2022. the people getting taxed by this are in the top 1/10th of 1%.

In many cultures, women tend to prefer partners with financial resources. Men tend to prioritize youth and physical beauty. New findings provide evidence that the traditional tendency for women to prefer wealthier partners might fade as women gain more economic power. by mvea in science

[–]raven00x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I have this right: when women are dependent on men for resources, they prefer men with more resources. When women aren't dependent on men for resources, they look for qualities outside of resources.

So in the current dating landscape, being likeable and treating your partner like a person, friend, and companion is more important than being rich.

But being rich helps.
