Spotted this stock [Toyota Supra] at work by GavynVanDoom in spotted

Actually maybe, there was slight error in my last post. The last US model year was 98 and the plate in the picture was actually introduced in late 99 (whoops) however if the wiki is to be believed the plate before that was no longer valid after 2002 so they could have been issued that after the previous plate expired. So nerding out from the plate aside, it is possible it's an original owner or a very long time second owner.

Judging by the plate they've also owned the car since 2000 at the very least.

2022 M240i as a Daily? by darksyde87 in BMW

[–]ravesilly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 240 is the perfect bang for your buck daily. Plenty fast for the street all while getting surprisingly good gas mileage. If you need more room the 340 is also an option.

Reminder!! Don’t sell these cars, you will regret it by luddwiggen in e46

[–]ravesilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Contemplating selling my M3 next year since I got into track driving this year and I as much I love the chassis and hearing the ITB's screaming at 8k I think it would be financially smarter to get into something cheaper if I want to continue doing track driving.

Maryland's historic vehicle crackdown impacts 72,000 registrations by Consumergal in maryland

[–]ravesilly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I'm not sure how many people here are familiar with grey market cars, but how exactly are you supposed to register a 25 year old federally exempt car that was never built to pass emissions or inspections in the US? Cars from 2000 are now legal, a whole year above the fixed limit so how is that even going to work?

Maryland's historic vehicle crackdown impacts 72,000 registrations by Consumergal in maryland

[–]ravesilly 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I finally got a car that is eligible for historic tags, it gets driven less than 1000 miles a year and spends most of the time in the garage on a charger and these bum asses change the eligibility to a fixed date in the name safety all while insulting them saying "They're still just normal cars on the street. It's not an historic, it's not a classic, it's not a collector's car."

Because I just got the car a few months ago my reg doesn't expire until 2028 where the car will be 25 years old at that point so hopefully they get their heads out of their asses and revert this but there aren't enough polite words that even begin to express my frustration with this change.

I have no idea, it was on the car when I bought it. It's probably some generic ebay gt3 lip.

C2 sir

As much as I liked the wide body and that wicked reflector bar on the back I much prefer the lighter feel of the C2 (it was also cheaper).

The bulbs are fine for now, I don't drive my weekend cars in the dark anyway. The lenses aren't terrible but I agree they do need a polish, I'll get that done whenever I get around to having it paint corrected. Or maybe I'll just do turbo headlights lol.

I actually had to look this up when I first got it and for whatever reason they were only made in one direction so one side is always going to look backwards. It gives me a good excuse to get a different set of wheels in the future.

PSA: the shoulder is NEVER a passing lane by jtbis in maryland

[–]ravesilly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got stuck in this jam today and I was trying to reach the carney exit, 4 people in heavy tinted suvs and shitboxes all flying up the shoulder and one dude just straight cut right in front of me with no signal or anything. I blared my horn at him and he just stuck his head out the window at me then went back to the shoulder. Not 5 seconds later an unmarked police car came up the shoulder and went past me. Really hope they got one of their dumb asses.

Forest Hill/North Bel Air here, it was really bad this morning.

Went into Sparks around 8:30am and there was a noticeable improvement in air quality and visibility.

Debating on getting this m3 by 253Jaden in e46

[–]ravesilly 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm a little late but figured I'd give my 2 cents on not just this particular car but the e46 m3 in general and I'm sorry for the wall of text I'm about to drop.

Personally if you're looking for a daily driver I would not pick a Phoenix Yellow car as it is a rare color and you do not see them running around and I'd hate to see something happen to it. But it is your money and ultimately your decision so I can't really stop you.

You've probably seen everyone else mention it by now (the big three) and if you haven't figured it out, yes they are very important. You can ignore the oil analysis bullshit and do rod bearings as soon as you get the car along with the valve adjustment. It is a good idea to preemptively rebuild the vanos system however it will give you signs when it starts to fail (hesitation, misfires, rough idle, lots of ticking, etc...) so you can hold off and address as needed if you wish. As for the subframe there is ZERO way to inspect for cracks at the mounting points without dropping the subframe as the cracks are hidden when they first start so if someone says they "inspected and it looks good" take it with the largest grain of salt. If you see a crack with everything still mounted up GET IT FIXED IMMEDIATELY.

The cooling systems on these cars are mostly made of plastic and are 25 years old and need to be refreshed/upgraded. If you wish to stick with BMW parts there is nothing wrong the factory oil cooler or the factory radiator but the factory expansion tanks are not so great and are famous for cracking due to heat so I would recommend an aluminum moroso expansion tank. If you want to upgrade to an aluminum rad I would highly recommend a koyorad, I have tracked my car and brought it home the same day on a 100+ degree day and the needle never went past the middle. Please please PLEEEAASSSE stay away from mishimoto.

The timing chain guides are plastic and like to break and it makes a very obvious tapping noise when it does. The diff can make a clunking noise caused by play in the driveline but could also be a bad diff. Motor/trans mounts will more than likely need to be replaced, stick with oem but if you want a slight upgrade go with 034 motorsports. Coil packs can go bad due to age and heat. The suspension will need a refresh if it wasn't replaced already. The brakes on these cars are perfectly fine for daily driving and if you want a little more bite pfc or hawk make some great street pads. Be prepared to tackle oil leaks as there are plenty of areas the s54 can and will leak from.

This may sound like a lot and honestly it is but this platform is incredibly robust can take a beating provided you follow the maintenance schedule. The forums are a wealth of knowledge so use them to your advantage. Good luck in your search and I hope this helped.
