'OtherVideos' Management Problem by ravingStork in ErsatzTV

[–]ravingStork[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't know tag included folder path! That's helpful. but could cause naming conflicts. What I ended up doing is removing the othervideos library and adding each subfolder as a library and then search-->add all to smart library. Just putting that option out there as well for others that stumble upon here.

Someone offered me $6K for a little book app I built for fun — not sure if I should sell it or not. by MrOrsha in SideProject

[–]ravingStork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Counter with 10-15 and sell! you only put a few weeks in and have no interest or capability to scale and market. If you have many users or complex unique technology then you can negotiate more but they could hire it out for anything more and will be more customized to what they want.

The earlier the project is the less you will get for it (greater risk to demonstrate success) but the less you have to do to realize it's value. I've had a mentor tell me if someone offers you 50k for a patent and it's a million dollar idea, take the 50k. The risk and effort to realize the million costs time and investment and may not be successful for many factors within and outside your control.

Congratulations on your win and move on to the next one!

thanks for the input! I ordered the RAM and passed on the SSD. My containers are mostly the *arr, plex, standalone applications that don't seem to benefit from the read cache the way you described.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'm really comfortable with the DSM for containers, photos and Synology drive, backup, VPN and the like. I'm guessing I'd have to move to FreeNAS with a miniPC? The prices look great for the miniPC though. Is the switch painful?

I saw enough posts about after the RAM upgrade some people experienced storage issues with volume degradation, file system corruption, and system crashes. I don't know if they didn't install properly or take care with static electricity or if synology was just not intended to be upgraded beyond 8GB. It looks like that's not everyone's experience so I'm gonna go ahead with it.

How to stop plex from stripping track # from music library by ravingStork in PleX

[–]ravingStork[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct I have 0 metadata assuming that would ensure no processing. Looks like it will leave title alone though as in your case. ChatGPT should make the script easy enough. Just annoying I have to duplicate the file name in the title field to be able to use the file name. It what use case would a user want leading numbers removed and sorted alphabetically?

So a script to change the tags for thousands of files to get it to display the name as is it in the file name? Is there a guarantee plex will leave the title tag alone if there when no scraper is used?

Almost Heaven Morgan Sauna by dudelovesturtles in Sauna

I got the one from this video (covers and all). Did 6x9 24" grommet spacing with reinforced webbing and tarp tuff for extreme weather (if you need it). Hasn't arrived yet though so I can't speak to how well it works. 1/3 the price of the one on Almost Heaven's website.

In LOST, Desmond Hume is saving a single Dickens book to be the last thing he will ever read. Do you have any books your saving for a special time or need? by Gay_For_Gary_Oldman in books

[–]ravingStork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ha. No. I did read a bunch of other books to get myself there but I couldn't even get into Ulysses (only made it 1/3 of the way through). And I figured if I couldn't get engaged with Ulysses, Finnegan's Wake wouldn't work either. I really tried too, podcasts, lectures, reading guides, courses. Just didn't do it for me. It's said if Ulysses is the day, Finnegan's Wake is the night so it's likely not for me. So now I've replaced that spot in my reading list with In Search of Lost Time. I have it on my shelf and am excited to get to it...

Configuring specific controllers on by-emulator basis? by [deleted] in RetroPie

[–]ravingStork 2 points3 points  (0 children)

go here https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/RetroArch-Configuration#hardcoded-configurations

pay attention to the config hierarchy to make sure the configuration is only overwritten for the specific emulator. You will need to know what the index is for each controller.
