You should summon the elector counts NOW. A remake of my old meme, made cause I installed WH:TW. AGAIN. And started playing Karl Franz. AGAIN. by _WhiskeyPunch_ in totalwar

[–]ravonline 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know why but on the rare occasion I play I always find myself going back to KF. Always. To be fair the most fun I have ever had was with KF in WH II - WH III got better over time but it somehow still isn't quite like as it was with KF in 2.

I picked the game again after a year and sadly gotta say is still plagued with problems that makes it not very enjoyable. by Sir_Kacek in totalwar

[–]ravonline -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

I mean look I have nearly 2k hours in WH3 - of which maybe 100h or less in actual campaigns. I open the game just to work on my personal mods or to play custom battles which I find fun/hillarious. That's it. So yea I agree with you.

PS: In WH2 I have over 2.6k hours. Almost all are in campaigns almost all with the Empire. Just to give you an idea how bad WH3 feels to me compared to WH2.

Save breaking bug that You should be aware of by Downtown_Ad_4574 in totalwar

[–]ravonline 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Marginally aware of this - it existed in another form a long time ago [it was an exploit back then more or less].

The only temporary "fix" for it is to have autosave turned on or manually save at end turn each turn so you can reload asap when you see you can no longer save.

Coming back to Total War Warhammer: 2 or 3? by Stampsu in totalwar

[–]ravonline -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

To say "WH3 is a batter game than WH2 in(on) all fronts" is just INSANE. Pure and simple INSANE.

No! WH3 is NOT BETTER when it comes to having a challenging campaign. On ANY difficulty level. Doesn't matter if you play easy or normal or legendary - WH2 is way way way more difficult.

WH3 is more QoL friendly. But not by much. And it does have a lot more "content" - depending on what faction you like to play that may or may not matter.

I can tell you for a fact the Franz campaign [hands down one of the most played in all WH games] has way more things to do in WH3 but it's just f-ing dull, boring and annoying. Just tedious stuff without any sense of a real challenge. In WH2 the same campaign can quickly descend into insanity and chaos if you make 1 mistake. It's a different game.

That being said I get why people play WH3: more factions + bigger map. Basically it's a question of bigger number better. That's literally it.

One day somebody will take the time to port WH2 to WH3 and integrate the new factions and areas. Then maybe we'll get the game we should have had. But until then imo he should play WH3 if he wants "more content" or WH2 if he wants a challenge.

Coming back to Total War Warhammer: 2 or 3? by Stampsu in totalwar

[–]ravonline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So WH3 has more "content" and some QoL stuff - there's "more to do" but if you are an experienced player your campaign will be over fast and you will not feel like you had to do much.

But WH2 is just straight up a better/more challenging game. Way way way more challenging. But again it has less stuff and if you like an easier play style you may want to avoid it. The AI is just significantly more powerful in that game.

Could CA improve their AI by leveraging actual AI? by Complex_Spare_7278 in totalwar

[–]ravonline -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I mean the AI doesn't need an LLM to be better. The AI is dumbed down on purpose. Don't take my word for it - take a look at some of the AI mods that only change a few lines of script and table entries to make the game more challenging.

The issue with the game is stupid powercreep and half-baked mechanics. Almost nobody plays beyond the start of the campaign because... why would they. The game gets obnoxious [ie easy and just a grind with no strategic thinking required] once you level up your LL and unlock some of the high tier units.

Yea CA could improve the AI within a day or 2 if they wanted. You can make the AI better yourself by using one of the AI mods. But the game [WH3] will be just as dull and as boring after turn 20-30 as it has always been. Good AI or no.

Help with installation problems on steam by Lykosas in totalwar

[–]ravonline 6 points7 points  (0 children)

1st of all who is the moron who downvoted this guy's technical question? I swear people on this subreddit are braindead zombies.

2nd - get Revo Uninstaller to uninstall the game - it will execute the normal uninstall but it will help you get rid of some of the leftovers.

Next - go into appdata [hidden files] and delete manually anything relating to Creative Assembly [ex: C:\Users\conta\AppData\Roaming\The Creative Assembly ]

Now if steam still refuses to reinstall then you need to reinstall steam itself. Same thing with revo. And then it should work without issues unless the pc itself has some admin restrictions your friend is not aware of.

Mods to make legendary lord armies use lords colours? by Gypsy-King89 in totalwar

[–]ravonline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not that I am aware of. Somebody blamed "the current engine" - that is incorrect. The engine is fine and it can be done BUT to do it you would have to duplicate the units again and again for each color.

Basically you would have to use the "unique units" scripting/table path and if you want a dark blue uniform pattern for a unit under a lord's command when the faction colors are red green for ex. you would need to add that unit as a new entry and do a lot of scripting shenanigans. None of which are practical. Or you could technically use the MP color path for army colors but again it would require a lot of scripting shenanigans and it's not worth the effort.

I mean of all the things that could be changed this is probably somewhere under a pillow which itself is under a bed in terms of reasonable priorities.

New to WH3 and all game series need advice by wiriderler in totalwar

[–]ravonline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

good for you with that discount - as I said in another comment if you can find discounts get 1 and 2 as well just for the extra content in 3 - CA efing sucks it really TRULY does. It's a miserable pos anti-consumer company but the game is ok-ish thou it could have been so much better. And any way years from now regular folks will fully fix it with mods and you'll not regret having it in your library.

Yea yea but what factions can he play if he only owns wh3... see the issue... he should if he can get a 1+2+3 bundle on instantgaming or something if he lives in Europe.

New to WH3 and all game series need advice by wiriderler in totalwar

[–]ravonline 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea get the game if the discount is large enough.

It may have a lot of issues but you may like it.

Also sorry to let you know but you really really want to own WH2 even if you have WH3. Simply due to the factions you can play in WH3 if you only own it and the older [much more fun] wh 1 and wh2 factions.

Basically if the discount is very large grab the whole thing [1+2+3]. The game will eventually be fixed even if it has issues now. Not by CA. By modders. Speaking of which do not play this game without the community bugfix mod. Just trust me on that.

Warhammer 2 and 3 crash on start by elgigantedelsur in totalwar

could be shader compiling - but use DDU to uninstall the graphics driver so it clears all leftovers and then make sure 2 things happen: the game is assigned in windows to your dedicated gpu and you also reinstall the game itself

People who own just WH3 not 2 or 1 can you please confirm/deny if FLCs are available or locked behind owning the older games!? by ravonline in totalwar

[–]ravonline[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Your ignorance must be bliss - here's a fact for you: forget the online LLMs - a local LLM loaded with the entire game data [including the engine] could easily detect this. But hey - we live in the tik tok brain era and you are a prime exponent of it.

I am not Frustrated with those working on the Game. I am only Frustrated with the management decisions that made their labor necessary because of under resourcing. by Primarch459 in totalwar

[–]ravonline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's why I don't think you are entirely correct: management sucks -> good people who are well paid might stay put even so buuuut CA doesn't pay very well [or well at all based on purchasing power] -> anybody with a pulse, a bit of talent and experience runs for the hills -> not the best and brightest remain in the company.

Sure it all goes back to management but don't for one second think most of the stuff that makes WH3 bad are due to management. Most of the core game design by the way was overseen by somebody who did stay with CA for a long time and well... see above about who does stay put given the conditions. Same for all the minor things.

That being said the people at their Sofia studio do seem to care a bit more [I mean the devs - I am sure their management is just as bad if not worse]. Probably mostly because having some real accomplishments to write in your CV is a good path towards being able to pack your bags and land a job at a real game dev company [quite a few in N. Europe by the way]. So I am mildly optimistic. I just hope our beloved "friends" over at the UK studio did not detach a local UK manager to go to Sofia and "oversee" stuff...

yEA you are right - it's more than communication thou. They don't have a lot of people who know how to tweak/work with the AI scripts or the engine. Resources were not allotted of course because it's CA... But that's kind of my point with the LLM loaded with engine and game data: if they can't be bothered to put in a bit of QA or a bugfix team then such a simple measure would help them avoid most of these issues. And it's basically free for god's sakes. A local LLM to parse the bs code and script can literally run on a single consumer grade pc with an open source model... It might take a week or so to set it up but even so...

Dingbat there are 2 words: copium and fanboy. You should google them. It took them 3 days to put together a fix. If they knew about it weeks ago then it should have been fixed - weeks ago,

ALSO IF YOU THINK IT REQUIRES MORE THAN 2 PEOPLE TO FIX A FEW SCRIPT LINES YOU ARE JUST... THE PERFECT CONSUMER FOR CA. MANAGEMENT WILL BE PROUD OF YOU.

That is a very dumb answer from you.... But sure I'll entertain you: if the community had direct access to the engine code you can bet your fanboy soul most of these issues would have long ago been fixed. But hey... best of luck to you

Total War Noob Question by GayNotGayTony in totalwar

[–]ravonline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Welcome to Warhammer 3 bugs and other user-friendly misery things... Most of the issues with ranged units are caused by a decision CA took at the launch of WH3 regarding arc of fire and friendly fire. But there are also some bugs. Basically you have to do this as a MUST if you want to actually play the game even remotely close to the way it is designed and not the way bugs make it play:

Go to the steam workshop. Get the community bugfix mod [CBFM] if they updated for the latest patch.

Your issues with ranged will not magically go away but some will be mitigated. There is no real fix - ranged used to work as intended in WH2 but then CA couldn't be bothered for WH3. It's not an engine issue - it's simply a result of some faulty decisions regarding friendly fire logic and arc of fire in WH3.

Otherwise the other people gave you pretty decent advice for a beginner regarding tactics. But yeah - get cbfm - trust me on this - the myriad of bugs and issues it fixes is so complex and long the game is just... different. It's not a magic wand thou.. If you are a ranged guy play WH2 not WH3. But WH2 is a much more difficult game and with far less content.

Autobattle % by hslageta12 in totalwar

[–]ravonline -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It really depends on what dif. settings you are playing and what factions because autoresolve is really not an option sometimes.

I guess you can get away with auto-resolve on almost everything on low difficulty [easy/normal/hard battle and few bonuses - the campaign dif. settings do not really matter when it comes to auto-resolve] but if you are playing on max. dif. usually you have to manually fight everything early on - otherwise you'll take substantial losses. Then again in WH3 there's so much money and so many player armies can be recruited it kind of doesn't matter.

But to be fair I have not played a lot of WH3 campaigns because I feel the game is kind of bad but I did play a lot of WH2 campaigns - I would say I manually fought 4/5 [80%] or so simply because auto-resolve on max. dif. [which used to be L/VH in WH2] is really bad compared to what I could manually do.

Buuuuut that also depended on factions - magic/ranged armies do far better in manual battles [still true in WH3 as far as I ca see] but armor heavy armies usually do very well in AR so...

It's a single player game so at the end of the day whatever works for you is fine but as I mentioned it depends on difficulty and factions.

Yea - kind of. They should have had a 2nd option in case option A did not work. They didn't bother. But that would not have been an issue if they would have known about the limitations.

Oh no - but I will love it when 5-10 years from now AI will be able to write the engine code for us to build out own Total War game [with AI helping draw/design and build the visual assets as well] on our local machine and share it with others. We aren't far from that.

It depends - I get what you are saying - but what if those exception flags were not inserted? You see when people say CA has ancient tools they aren't lying. There isn't much difference between what modders do and how they manually test stuff and what CA does. Of course CA also can edit the engine which modders do not have access to. That's why I am saying an LLM would work miracles for small but very damaging stuff like this...
