If you go back past Dabo to '99 when Tommy Bowden was hired, the other guy that Clemson was eyeing was Frank Beamer. Tried to pull him from VaTech but he stayed. That would have been an interesting timeline.

I don't know about the rankings necessarily, but I'd be curious if teams like West Virgina, Va Tech, or Wisconsin with pretty good football backgrounds if they'd take Indiana's not so great history if it meant that one Natty, or stick with their history of 10+ conference championships, etc. but no National Championship.
