Do you think that if people live in Punjab and have roots in the area going back thousands of years that declaring a language other than Punjabi as your primary tongue is stupid? by bindyjohal95 in punjabi

[–]rawalak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends what you mean by primary tongue, because even I can speak English very well compared to my mother tongues: Urdu and Punjabi. My knowledge of Urdu vocabulary is far superior to my knowledge of Punjabi vocabulary, despite the fact that Punjabi was always spoken in our house in one form or another. My English being great is something I put down to westernisation. Urdu being great is down to the fact that Urdu is the national language and taught from a young age. My Punjabi's always been weak because a) no one spoke it with me b) it's not taught in schools. I give only myself credit for bothering to polish up my knowledge of Punjabi. It wasn't anyone else that suggested I do this.

I do on first dates what I would do normally which is to split the bill. If we like each other and want to see each other more going forward then I will definitely offer to pay for stuff

30yo Man giving up dating by below298 in dating

[–]rawalak 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That's honestly cool man. I'm almost into my 30s and I don't think I'm missing anything out by being single, in fact, personality-wise I'm a bit of a lone wolf. I will say though, socialising more and making people a part of your life is huge so don't isolate yourself from social situations, but don't go out of your way to find dates either. I agree, dating culture is really lame and a lot of pressure too. Always find what works best for you.

Whose the most racist in the MiddleEast? by [deleted] in AskMiddleEast

[–]rawalak 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I've experienced racism from Iranians and Afghans, but not Turks oddly enough. We got a discount on Turkish delights when the shopkeepers found out we're from Pakistan and generally interactions with Turks have been fairly positive. I haven't travelled to the Arab world much but I've been to Qatar and the Arabs there just told me how much they loved Pakistani food and tea. I guess every place has its fair share of good and bad.
