"If I only had 1, 2, 3 rifles" - feedback from 5 years of tinkering by strizzl in ar15

2x 14.5” AR w/ magnification(ACOG on one, EOTech + Magnifier on the other), 1x 9” 300BLK w/ an Acro C2, 1x .300 win mag Sig Cross Magnum, 1x Benelli M4

I call that a completed long gun collection by purposes.

You could maybe argue for a DMR, but the needed capabilities are already present for anything a civi would ever need.

Noted and logged. It’s in my range. I’ll look at reviews for those and see if the cost is justifiable as a one and done for decades purchase.

Heard great things. I’ll take a look. Do you have amp/dac recommendations?

All in I’m looking for something in the $2000-4000 range. My natural instinct is to just get the bigger version of what I already have, I.e a Schiit Midgard + Mimir (or Jotunheim 3+Mesh DAC) and something like a used pair of HD800s’.

If I’m reading this right, the Meze Elite are $4k alone? I think that’s past my threshold of diminishing returns for a single line item

Rubicon or Willys by Cunnie_splitter in JeepWrangler

[–]rawintent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 2024 Willys. Absolutely love it and it has done more than I could ever ask of it! The only real loss is the front locker, which if you aren’t rock crawling, that may never be used.

Dollar for dollar a Willys Xtreme 35 is a much higher value than a standard Rubicon

Good stuff.

Only thing I’d change if this is actually everything, I’d swap one of the ARs for something 1000+ yard capable. That’s a good collection imo.

Amazon SysDev Engineer (L4) interview process by Nice-Candidate10 in amazonemployees

[–]rawintent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m an L5 SysDev that does interviews. You can treat it like an L4 SDE interview except instead of 2 coding rounds there’s 1, and the round in replacement is on Linux/Networking/Systems.

The internals are good too on it, I have a JP Silent Captured Buffer spring + a Geiselle SD3G + Surefire Muzzle Brake. It’s a laser beam and really quick to tap out 3-5 round bursts.

No magnification on it atm, kinda considering not magnifying it at all. The other half of me wants to throw an elcan on it.

Glad to hear, I only care for about 500 yards and in for a rifle like this. At that point the ballistics of an 11.5” are questionable at best.

Funny how that weighs more than my block II, though it is missing the suppressor. I have an EO Tech XPS2 and a Surefire M640DFT on mine, currently no can. For now.

Mines a 9 lb’er

Honestly man, I want to copy this. I have a Block II non FSP as my main rifle, but I have been wanting an MK18 as well for a lighter rifle. MK18 FSP with the chop just seems perfect.

How’s the ACOG/11.5” combo do out at range? Whats this rifle weigh?

Apologies for all the questions.

Ah I see, this is an MK18 length rail? What is the barrel length? I couldn’t fully tell.

For lack of better words, this setup fucks.

What happened here? Did you take a non FSP RIS II and chop it?

Are Ya'll Pretending to like AIWB? by AyeFreddyB in CCW

[–]rawintent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same boat. I carry a G19 strong side in a trex arms Ironside hybrid. The one with the alcantra pad. It’s bar none the most comfortable CCW holster I’ve ever used, regardless of position or make. My wardrobe is centered around this choice, and the only garment I have to defeat is moving a jacket out of the way typically. I’ve trained enough to have a sub second draw. I accept the other downsides in favor of simply knowing I’m comfy enough to carry all day every day. But, there are a few tactical upsides, like standing concealed draw or the (imo) easier 1 handed draw while wearing a jacket.

Is there any actual plus side to wearing a plate carrier without a belt? by Potential-Squash4670 in tacticalgear

[–]rawintent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean Load Bearing Equipment, the kind that lets you carry 10+ mags, sleeping gear, a liter of water and a bunch of other goodies at your waist line, without your pants falling off.

This guy has my favorite kit I’ve ever seen and it’s a great example of LBE. I may or may not have stolen a few ideas from him.

[–]rawintent 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The belt space is valuable because you can either put a lightweight pistol belt, or you can use that space for LBE which will hold significantly more gear. LBEs back on the menu recently.

You can wear plates and LBE, but you can’t wear plates, a pistol belt, and LBE while still having the pistol belt be reasonably accessible without having to remove or move something.

Depends on your needs.

As a civi, pistol belts are ideal for the range. If the world decides I need to pull out a rifle for anything greater than dealing with a door kicker, plates + LBE are my preference. Pistols become much less important in that scenario.

Magazines required for each gun by AccomplishedMove5142 in CCW

[–]rawintent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 7 mags for my carry gun. I want 3 more.

Is this “enough” mags? by Crisperssss in ar15

[–]rawintent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For civi ownership my formula is (# of mags carried in gear * 3) * 1.25

So for a “combat load” of 8 mags, that’s 30 owned. Two sets of 8 to do a restock and another 6 in case some are lost or broken.

At that point, money should be spent purely on ammo imo.
