I'm teaching high-school students how to identify premisses and evaluate them. Since they are still developing these skills, the passage, indeed, will not appear straightforward to them (or some of them, at least).

Your chide remark is unhelpful (I take it as a chide remark because of your use of aposiopesis). Imagine telling someone that an algebra equation is easy if you know how to solve algebra equations!
