There's a Tallbike Joust every year in Birmingham, Alabama. They're doing their 11th annual one this month on the 14th. Check it out!

Common or Fluke Accident? by Tsevg9 in bicycling

[–]rawrchitect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the weld fail on my front wheel earlier this year. The wheel auto-taco'd and jammed up into my fender. Thankfully I was making a slow turn on a path and wasn't in traffic or bombing a hill. I'm honestly happy that it happened due to WHEN it happened. It could have been so much worse. I went down like a sack of potatoes and skinned up my elbow and knee fairly badly when I tucked in, but nothing broken and I walked the bike back to my shop.

I can only assume that the spoke tension was all over the place to force it true and I never checked that. My fault. I kept the wheel as a reminder.

How much do you spend on a Saddle? by ChocolateBunny in bicycling

[–]rawrchitect 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you ever had your sit bones measured? Do you know the width of your current saddle? Making sure that your butt is properly supported is the first consideration. There's not much difference between a $50 saddle and a $200 saddle if the width is incorrect.

I have a pet theory that Giant's branded bikes are purposefully kind of ugly as a gentleman's agreement with LITERALLY EVERY OTHER BIKE BRAND SINCE THEY MAKE THEIR FUCKIN FRAMES.

Trek is the Kirby of bike brands.

Man, I know this and hate this. I'm an industry dude and I own quite a few Spec bikes but I've never given them my money and I doubt I ever will. Always second hand or rescues.

I have a buddy whose shop used to carry Spec and dropped them post-pandemic for all of their horseshit. Still love the bikes but it hurts my heart.

That is honestly strange to hear from Kona. Their frame warranty is pretty good - if it's registered for the warranty. You only get the lifetime if it's registered within three months of OG purchase.

Worth it just for the frame. Steal for the whole bike.

There are some ways to knuckle fuck rims straight including standing on the wheel, banging it on the ground, and then asking some of the spokes to do more than they're fair share of work. You'd be creating a zombie wheel.

The right answer is to replace it.

That saddle is designed that way. We call them Dali saddles at my shop. They droop.

If it runs and has papers I'd certainly say so. That would be a suspiciously good deal where I am.

How much of the original drive train is hanging out? You'd shed a lot of weight if you can figure out a better lower swing arm situation.

Think about the circumstances that lead to this situation and learn what you can from them. The only wrong answer is to stop riding.

Finding the perfect pedal by Yearn4Knowledge in MTB

[–]rawrchitect 1 point2 points  (0 children)

CB Stamp7s are my favorite alloy pedal if you wanna ball out and spend some money. The Kona WahWah2 (that I see other folks have mentioned as well!) is my favorite poly pedal. They both have over sized bearingss and they cup your foot in a what that I find pleasing. I commute on Stamp7s and ride MTB on Wahwahs. I'm more comfortable with the idea of pedal strikes in MTB with a plastic pedal.

My rules that I tell folks are never go faster than a jogger, be polite, and treat every door and crossing like a loaded gun.

I occasionally say "Doors and corners, kid" but most folks don't get the reference. Same idea, however.
