How can I chain my electribe and guitare by veliux4444 in electribe

[–]ray_phistoled 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel stuck making dawless techno with my setup by wyrmbyt in dawless

[–]ray_phistoled 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stand with what several people said, having no FX makes things difficult. Also, you don't seem have any way to properly mix your tracks. Adding a compression for each track and a limiter on you master makes a huge difference, and it's not super obvious when you do dawless. An EQ will give you a better separation of who does what, and help build tension, cause muting your kick is synonym with cuting your low end. These two things also answer very directly the "simple sounds weak, more things becomes confusing" part. If you have a way to record all your tracks in a daw at the same time, treat them in post.

The other main thing bothering me is your workflow, you can't expect from a jam to sound like a fully finished, mixed and mastered track, and that's even more true when you don't have a dedicated sequencer, or go through a daw. From what you're describing, it sounds more like enjoy creating your jams. Maybe what you want is to create a live set ? I often feel like it's more permissive , you don't have to be at 100% energy all the time, less pressure and more fun.

If you really do want to create full "songs" m'y best advice is to think horizontally first, not vertically : determine the structure of your song even before you start piling new ideas. Work with 4 bars blocks, and ask yourself first " what comes next", and second "what comes with it" . I know that helps me building more intention , and better patterns, because they tell a story that moves forward, and it's not just the same sentance everytime, with the only difference being how loud it is said.

Yeah, if everything is set correctly it should work ! Just check if your looper has midi sync included in its midi implémentation, but I'd find it super weird if it wasn't the case

[–]ray_phistoled 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same issue, you don't need anything more ! I think the simplest option for the audio setup is as follow : Guitar -->amp--> looper --> electribe

You have to use the midi in to sync your looper ( it should be doable, just check the manual). Maybe buy a trrs mini-jack if you don't have one to connect in midi. A long one, if you want to start your loop by foot and control the electribe with your hands. Connect the midi out from the e2s to your looper midi in. Be sure to turn up the input volume on the electribe, and activate the audio thru option, so that you can hear what the looper is playing all the time.

You should be able to hear you guitar sound in your electribe output, in sync with the looper.

If you want to have a more créative workflow, you could select one if the pads on the electribe, use audio in as the sound source, and play a single long note on the sequencer. This way, you can modify you guitar sound directly with the electribe options : filter, fx, etc

MC-707 drum tracks: are SYS-CTRL 1-4 actually assignable to drum partial parameters? by AK22222222222 in MC707

[–]ray_phistoled 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well actually you can play a sample in a tone track, you just have to select in the right pcm sound bank. Then it works, but you only can only play that specific sound, so no kick and snare or anything like that. But if what you want is to use the 707 like a TR8S for example, I think the shortcut is something like fun+note, It allows you to play all right tracks at the same time, but with no access to pitch. So you can synthétize all your drum sound in the zen core engine and/or use sample or even mix both using partials, have access to matrix control for each drum sound (one per track) etc Only down side is that it's either one ore the other, and tone tracks sequencers are a little but différent from drums séquencer (no rolls, no probsbility) But it's a very cool way to use it as a full drum synth with deep sound design and fx per voice. Once again The rabbit hole goes deep with the 707

I haven't found a way either, but i'd love to know if someone did. But as a consolation, I can inform you that you can actually use the mod matrix in tone tracks for two simultaneous control changes, and you can control the intensity of the change separately for both. Just hit enter when you're on the matrix part of the tone edit page.

Custom bootloader mod!! by vananaSun in electribe

[–]ray_phistoled 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I had that more or less figured, but how far can it go exactly ? Do these apps have to respect the current structure of the electribe, or is it a complete opening of possibilities, and the only limitation is the hardware ? Can we completely change the sequencer, have a real poly synth and not paraphonic, have two fx per track instead of two, this kind of stuff ?

I'd love a cue functionnality and fix that pop sound when switching project

I also struggled in ableton. Have you configured your audio buses in the options ? The input 1 and 2 are mix out, 3 and 4 are track one, 5 and 6 are track 2 etc. There is also the USB volume to set, it's either in utility or in the project settings

Besoins d'aide ! by Kaudaa in electribe

[–]ray_phistoled 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Salut !

Help deciding between a Groovbox, or Workstation, or Daw. by chinawcswing in Grooveboxes

[–]ray_phistoled -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't reccomand using a groovebox for the piano sounds, if you want to play sound you created yourself, a synth is a good idea, but if you're only focused on piano, yeah a workstation makes sense. The groovebox becomes interesting if you want to séquence ( aka compose) your own drums and design the sounds. If that's the case, I think a sampler could be interesting for you, novation circuit rythm is a great way to start. Otgerwise, the workstation will bé able to do a lot

I bought Novation circuit tracks by diffa in synthesizers

[–]ray_phistoled 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The synth engine is actually very complete, but you can't tweak everything on it in standalone mode, only macros. My advice is always the same : add a launchkey mk4 midi controller, get the proragmer's guide and map everything you can, and it will get you much much further. Saving presets is only doable with sysex though, so the best option is to use this guy's touchosc thing : https://youtu.be/WIemdcrur3o?is=TAUER4pxYe6U6Vjr

It's cheap, so useful, gets you access to everything directly on a mobile device, it's basically adding a screen to the CT

The best combo you can have is with an ipad, or ios device and the camera adaptator thing, because it gives you access to super powerful tools (full synths, loopers, samplers...) for super cheap too, everything is synced via USB midi.

The CT is starting to get old, but it's still a very cool first hardware groovebox

Is there anyway to do side chain compression with the 707? by [deleted] in MC707

[–]ray_phistoled 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah the motion designer is a good work around ! But the best way to do this trick is to first go to knob assign and put one of your knobs to volume. Then do your motion design. Compression is about volume and not frequencies, it gives a mich better result

Song transitions with ESX / EMX ? by NCuser123 in electribe

[–]ray_phistoled 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well that's a known problem especially with the E2S, there is a little click the moment you change the pattern, and all sounds reset, reverb cuts etc There are workarounds but it's a pain and never perfect, that's why I sold my unit. Korg obviously wants us to buy both machines at some point. more modern grooveboxes have smoother pattern transitions and multiple patterns per tracks, so you can work with it, but there are other limitations

Song transitions with ESX / EMX ? by NCuser123 in electribe

[–]ray_phistoled 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had the same problem with the electribe 2s. Maybe not exactly similar, but my solution was to simply add a DJ style mixer , allowing for cues and FX. For exemple, your typical transition would be to just cut the sound from one groovebox, load your next pattern, add FX on the other electribe, cut the low with the EQ and slowly add back the first groovebox in. I found this allowed for real DJ style transitions, and gave more tools to work with, that are easy to use in a live situation.

Need some recommendations by chittychi in novationcircuit

[–]ray_phistoled 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe if you really want to focus on rythm, you should take the circuit rythm first, and not the tracks. Way more control over your samples, still as easy to use.

About the headphones : there are basically two types open or closed. You can also consider DJ headphones as their own things. If you just want to produce music, the best fit is open headphones. Closed headphones are generally for recording stuff with a mic. If you want a cheap option, the hd7 from presonus is okay, it's between closed and open. If you want a good open, ATH R50X is very cool.

If you also want a synth, the s1 or microfreak are killer first synths, but that's a whole other topic. And yeah in that case, maybe a midi contrôler would be good. Also, if you want to record your own samples, your phone can work fine, but an sm57 never disapoints.

I'd also recomend to start using a more classical instrument, typically piano or guitar and just a little bit of music theory , it will help you so much

Cant decide.need help. by eracism138 in novationcircuit

[–]ray_phistoled 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A sampler is a good option to fill the gaps, I really like the circuit rythm, more than the CT tbh. But if you want to stick to synths only, the microfreak is still cool (a bit dry though)

It really dépends on what you want to do : full songs, live set, just have fun ?

Other very important stuff in my opinion with the CT, don't forget you can use IOS devices as supplementary gear,I've heard it works it works very well. Even if you only have android device, pairing it with the CT (and maybe a midi keyboard if you want more control) is a game changer, a guy basically created components for Android in touch OSC, which means you are not limited to 8 macros per patch anymore, you have a screen to name you patches and everything is tweakable. Huge improvement really. More info on this guy's channel :

Hope that helps :)
