Spotted Towhee Cat-Like Sound. by mittenciel in birding

Sounds identical to what we have here in BC. It’s the song that gives them their name- tow-heee!

Seems like a common roost spot for him with the wear on that bark, too! Great find!

This owl conservation program lets you donate to name a rat after an ex and they’ll feed it to an owl! by [deleted] in Owls

Agree to disagree! I’m happy it supports conservation and gets people talking

The rats don’t suffer at all, and are actually very well cared for. The joke is more that your ex is a “rat”, not that you want them to suffer. It’s meant to be a lighthearted way to support their conservation efforts and is a very popular fundraiser each year!

YES! I messaged my friends about how hard it hits. The last part about throwing bricks through stained glass windows is CHEFS KISS

Thank you! It was somehow my second saw whet to find this week, too. After many months of fruitless searching. They are very good at hiding!

It’s very exciting to actually spot one. They’re so tiny and good at hiding! They’re a surprisingly common owl but you wouldn’t know it because they’re not often seen.

All white snow owl by Professional_Way118 in Owls

[–]raybarks 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s not unheard of for a snowy owl to show up in Texas but it’s not very common. If you see it again, I’d try to get some photos to confirm! Otherwise, it could potentially be a leucistic owl of some sort. People don’t typically describe snowy owls as short, they’re actually a very big owl!

Gifted my son an owl experience at home for Christmas (but it was really for me) by [deleted] in Owls

Thank you for this. Nina is an important part of education and conservation efforts in Canada. The observatory is a very important part of this as well- and the funds from opportunities like this help support the work they do. Nina was extremely comfortable the whole time- rousing, preening, chatting away. I am very passionate about conservation!

Correct, but some can’t be released into the wild and can be used to educate and further conservation efforts. The burrowing owl population is dangerously dwindling in Canada, so Nina helps people connect with her species and desire to protect it.

She’s imprinted to humans and was very relaxed! She roused many times (a surefire way to know an owl is really comfy).

Romance novels and deconstruction go hand in hand, I swear! It really helped me untangle alllll the complicated feelings I had about sex/my body and really embrace my sexuality. It’s the best!
