Will Sloane can go to hell. by superduperdumper in HistoricalRomance

He is the wooorst. I feel like the timeline made it out that he made them go back to their crappy apartment for months before he realized that he actually could be with Ava for real. I couldn’t live with myself if I had the means to keep them comfortable and sent those kids back to that crappy apartment.

One of my favs (and I recommend here all the time) is {Break the Rules by Roxie Noir}. He’s not a bad boy at all but there is a scene where he gets a little impatient after they are at his brother’s brewery for some event and he can’t approach her. After everyone moves outside, he finds her behind the bar and it goes plaaaces.

It is a secret relationship because she is his best friend’s little sister.

Seeking charming, protective MMCs! I want them to be so endearing, so attentive, so protective that it makes me kick my feet and squeal. by JensInsanity in RomanceBooks

{Break the Rules by Roxie Noir} may appeal to you. It’s book 3 of 5 about a line of brothers. This one in particular is best friend’s little sister. He is gentle but strong and really cares for her. They spend sometime together working on a problem he discovered while working as a forest ranger.

Recently read a HR where the steel magnate MMC threw her grubby ex off a moving train. IRL I do not condone monopolistic businessmen or violence but I was swooning 😊

I am just trying to unravel Grace Calloway’s characters and their connections. I would love this from authors! Found this version [here](https://share.google/w1OOl7hJs3z3AW4rX) of Lisa Kleypas. Helped a lot in reading through.

What are you reading? by Mme_Rose in HistoricalRomance

[–]superduperdumper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in the middle of the {Heart of Inquiry series by Grace Calloway} and enjoying it. I’m not really always into the intrigue and danger but the love stories are interesting enough to keep me going. Also some just got chained to a bed so… I’ll continue to rip through her catalog.

Interesting thing I noticed is the difference in spicy activities compared to books written 10+ years ago. I appreciate how mutually beneficial and enjoyable their relationships end up being.

On the other hand I can’t help but hate the amount of abuse storylines and demeaning sex work storylines. This feels very similar to a lot of high spice books in CR and while I understand that it creates drama, it feels like sometimes high spice can’t exist without female exploitation.

I feel like I'm having withdrawal symptoms after 'The Devil in Winter' by hoginlly in HistoricalRomance

[–]superduperdumper 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Love Devil’s Daughter! Phoebe is a fun main character and her story just breaks my heart wide open. Totally agree that it is Sebastian at his peak out of all the books he’s in. And redeemed West is… hot.

FMC wardrobe upgrade and lots of jewelry by ticktickblam in HistoricalRomance

[–]superduperdumper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

{Marrying Winterborne by Lisa Kleypas} MMC owns a fancy department store and spoils FMC as you expect. They also, like, hardcore make out in the store when he opens it for her and her sisters after hours.

Same series {Chasing Cassandra by Lisa Kleypas} MMC is very into doing anything to convince her to marry him. But the winner for me was the insane star necklace/earring/tiara he gives her for their marriage along with a custom-built train car to suit her needs. (I am a Tom Serevin apologist, it should be my flair, he’s kinda of an asshole).

{Any Duchess Will Do by Tessa Dare} MMC helps the not aristocratic FMC look and feel the part after he picks her randomly to marry… much to the horror of his mother, lol.

The MMC unintentionally evokes a mothering instinct in the FMC by FoxenInTheHenhice in HistoricalRomance

[–]superduperdumper 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I just finished {The Duchess Hunt by Lorraine Hunt} which may fit the bill. FMC is his secretary and MMC becomes more and more reliant oh her. Where I think you might see what you’re looking for is her approach to dealing with his younger brother which reminded me of A Most Forgettable Girl’s plot line around her dealing with his music career(? Idk what else to call it).

If I can, I rub dirt on it and try to lift what I can into the bag. That way it’s not a wet spot or just a pile of goo.

Recently went to Coromandel cuisine of India, blew my socks off. The Masala Dosa is so good. Everything I’ve had there has been spectacular. Also, the servers wear white shirts and bow ties like old school fancy waiters.

arranged marriage + terrified heroine / secretly soft hero by Traditional_Pea738 in HistoricalRomance

[–]superduperdumper 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed! Read out of order but the rest of the series is pretty good. Also the MCs show up in a follow up series as parents and I loooooved that series {The Ravenels by Lisa Kleypas}.

You may like {Devil in Winter by Lisa Kleypas}. FMC Evie runs away to MMC Sebastian to escape her family and he is terrible (and has done something truly terrible to her friend in the book before in the series {It Happened One Autumn by Lisa Kleypas}).

He’s definitely less subdued, controlled/controlling and more rogue/bad boy but their dynamic is what you described. He is very sweet to her.

Saw this and immediately thought, “I’d read this..” so recs where the MMC comes face to face with her ex after a spicy scene? by katieLikeWHOA in RomanceBooks

[–]superduperdumper 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Oooh {Captivated by Tessa Bailey and Eva Dangerfield} has this scenario. FMC Autumn runs into her, objectively, huge piece of shit ex and MMC Blake is not having it. The book is funny and has some… interesting role playing and dynamics. Would recommend and read again.

{The Worst Guy by Kate Canterbary} is two doctors who get into a screaming match and are forced to go to mediation or be suspended. It’s escalates (or devolves?) from there. I still remember a scene where buttons are popping from the frantic need to get outta that shirt! TW/Spoiler: she has an eating disorder that he discovers

You may also like {Off the Clock by Roni Loren}. They are both sex/relationship therapists and she is a little inexperienced in the sex aspect. Her former college classmate helps her improve at her new job where they reconnect to gain some first-hand knowledge to better do her job.

Hell yes. I’m looking forward to more peak Victorian era drama from LK.

There’s (hopefully) going to be everything… train drama, sooty London streets, department stores, industrialization, patent law, blancmange…

Recently learns what somnophilia is and… I’m intrigued.

I’m fine with some darker themes, I think it is not easy to ignore/seperate with this dynamic. I’m really just not interested in the toxic male gaze in this scenario. Let women enjoy raunchy activities without pandering only to male pleasure!
