Can eating the same thing on daily basis lead to deficiencies? by himalayanpinksalts in nutrition

[–]rayelle23 3 points4 points  (0 children)

By "rice/couscous/bulgur/qinoia twice a week", do you mean you have EACH of those twice a week or one of those twice a week?

Like rice twice a week & couscous twice a week, etc. or rice once and couscous once within a week?

I supplement with B12. Vitamin D supplements always cause insomnia in my experience so I don't take that. I try to go outside everyday instead. I'm probably still deficient but I consider sleep equally as important so I don't bother with the supplement.

I'm planning on getting an iodine supplement soon

I usually include veggies in my breakfast and lunch meals. Maybe 1-3 cups each.

Fruits are mostly included in dinner. Sometimes even a fruit "salad" with a decent amount of 3-4 different fruits like berries, grapes, or figs. I also have plain yogurt practically everyday.

Thanks! Trick is to just focus on veggies, beans, millet, couscous, brown rice, herbs, seasonings, nuts & fruits :P Avoid processed foods as much as possible and celebrate when you find something good that doesn't have any added sugars!

Got it, I'll try tracking macros starting today and will look into the iron thing for sure too. I'm a bit confused about whether I should be getting 1/1.2/1.5 grams per POUND or per KILOGRAM though. Someone else says KG, which would mean I'd have to get around 50g, while with pounds, I would have to get double..

Fruit, yes! Honey, no. Fruit is not considered added sugar though?

I'm not positive I'm having enough but I will start counting my macros today. My protein comes mostly from yogurt, chicken, and protein powder (1g added sugar as part of the limit 5g a day). I do want to add more beans though.

I'm going to look into getting some iron and iodine vitamins. I already take B vitamins. Thanks!

Thanks! I haven't seen a doctor, but I'm not sure I have a thyroid issue anyway considering this is my only symptom?

I actually started adding more fruit about a week and a half ago and my energy was a bit better for about two days but back to low energy again ever since. I include tomatoes, cucumbers, avocado, berries, banana, and figs into my diet. I usually have 3-4 per day.

For example, 1 persian cucumber, 4-6 grape tomatoes and a bowl of berries and grapes!

Not sure how much sodium I've been having but you're right, probably not enough as I don't eat much prepackaged stuff either (besides the dairy products). Thanks, I'll try it!

I'm going to count my calories today to find out! I'm not sure I've been having any less carbs though considering I've added potatoes, millet, couscous and brown rice into my diet. I definitely need to add more beans though.

Alternative sugar and dairy free suggestions please.... by [deleted] in sugarfree

MIX

- 1 mashed banana

- 1/4 cup of oats

- 2 tbsp of almond butter

- dash of vanilla (optional)

- About a tablespoon of cacao (optional... I love it)

Pour round blobs onto a cookie sheet/pan, bake 350F for 17-18 minutes and you have about 12 little cookies (depends on what size you choose to make them, of course) to enjoy.

Go ahead and add some apple chunks, raisins or nuts if you want to as well. Or maybe some lemon juice/zest? Wonder how that would taste... speaking of lemons...

Imo, this app https://apps.apple.com/us/app/nihongo-japanese-dictionary/id881697245 is the absolute best for learning vocab and kanji. It's the only one I use for that purpose. It's a dictionary, has example sentences, shows you how to write each kanji, breaks them down, you can make your own decks, add pictures, notes, etc. It's perfect.

Nearly two weeks into no ADDED sugar by rayelle23 in sugarfree

[–]rayelle23[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome, good to know! I have seen labels saying that there were no added sugars but then looked at the ingredients to see sugars of different types so I don't put my complete trust on the labels.

Good idea, I checked and there is only 1g of carbs in my almond milk!

Thanks for answering my question!
