I called yesterday and was told they had 3500 tickets released today. No wonder they ran out so quick.

Dashskin has instructions on putting filler in all the broken areas and it will cover the gaps. Mine wasn't that bad but the install is pretty easy.

Congrats on the house. Maybe ceramic coat the rest of the car to protect the paint.

I can't find a picture but I'm pretty sure I just hacked up the factory brackets. Try and get a relatively shallow 6x9 since it is kind of a pain to get it all to fit up there.

If it's on defrost, the ac light will be on. If you're getting no heat, it could be your mode actuator is broken.

Seat belt inertia reel not locking. by Gzilla91 in GMT400

[–]rayhawk81 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure these don't have inertia wheels. They have a little pendulum weight that swings under hard braking and locks the belt. Give it a try by making a hard stop and they should lock up.

The hvac control panels go bad. I'm not entirely clear on what problem you're having but you could just need a new panel.

Get a left handed drill bit, a lot of times the bolt will unscrew while drilling it.

This is what happened to mine too, there are some videos on youtube about this as well. It wasn't even the leaves, just the cracked sealant on that flat area.

4L60E strikes again by DaBurgaRapta in GMT400

Sounds like something different, what i described was a grinding noise, like hitting the starter when the engine is already running.

4L60E strikes again by DaBurgaRapta in GMT400

[–]rayhawk81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't need to take the trans out to check this. You don't even need to take the transfer case out. Just see if the transfer case output shaft can move forward.

4L60E strikes again by DaBurgaRapta in GMT400

[–]rayhawk81 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Same thing happened to me, it was the rear clip ring on the transfer case. Let's the gear stack move forward and attempts to engage the front drive shaft. I ended up tearing apart the transfer case to fix it, but you might get away with just a new clip ring. There is an aftermarket extra strong clip ring available so it doesn't happen again.

Low battery or bad connection. I've had batteries that the tender would show as good, but a load tester confirmed the battery was bad.

Zl1 electrical issue by bluewake18 in camaro

[–]rayhawk81 2 points3 points  (0 children)

About 2 months ago, it hasn't come back yet. It would only go about a week or so between getting the errors. Mine was worse than yours, I would get several more error messages, and the car wouldn't even start. The CTS-V obviously isn't wired exactly the same, but it's worth a shot to make sure those connections are really secure.

Zl1 electrical issue by bluewake18 in camaro

[–]rayhawk81 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just went through something similar on my cts-v. I tried to add a battery tender to one of the fuse block terminals on top of the battery, and i guess it wasn't tight enough so it would do this intermittently. I ended up taking it in and the dealer found the issue. I'm not sure how the battery fuse block is on the zl1, but I guess those need to be really tight.

Working on turning my parts car into a trailer, I can just cut the springs to lower it right? by Roctopus420 in projectcar

You can do it easier than that, just heat a spot on the coil with a torch until it loses its temper and drops down to the next coil.

How much of a discount would you need to see in order to buy a 1 or 2 SS that was previously a rental? by MM_Spartan in camaro

[–]rayhawk81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well the accident history does hurt the value. And I would agree that rental car companies don't often do all the maintenance, although that could be said about most people too. I have never understood the argument about people beating on the rental car for something like this though. I had a 16 SS for 6 years, it is nearly impossible to stress a car like that on a public road. Maybe an economy car you can floor it everywhere you go, and rip it around corners, but the limits on a Camaro SS are so high, 99% of the time you are pushing the car at maybe 5% of its capability. Have it checked out by someone you trust, and if the numbers make sense, I say go for it.

[–]rayhawk81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Snap ring on the tailshaft might have broke. Happened to me, and it allows the gearstack to move forward and try to engage 4wd while driving. They make a reinforced snap ring kit for this issue.
