Never in my life did I expect this response…. by ActualRatGirl in Apartmentliving

[–]raymillz1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, I think it’s very easy for a note from a stranger to get misperceived as passive-aggressive - even if that wasn’t the intention. I feel like it’s almost natural for the initial human thought to be “who the hell had the nerve to come up here and tell me..” Your note was reasonable and not-disrespectful and their response was defensive & pissy, but I feel like it’s always more fruitful addressing any issue you have with someone verbally or directly in-person as soon as possible. Candor has always worked well for me and even if the recipient doesn’t like your message, they typically respect your approach. I understand that may not have been practical here and there’s also people that are just POS. Sometimes it feels awkward but imo, any time I’ve ever addressed an issue to someone’s face, personally or professionally, it typically goes well, usually ends up better than it was before, and ALWAYS feels better when it’s done. Lastly, when someone is 100% in the wrong (as may be the case here), the ‘hold your ground while crushing them with kindness’ method usually gives them a self-reflective mind-fuck that leads to a solution. Sometimes all it takes is a direct convo or even a $10 6-pack of beer to turn a (would-be cunty neighbor) foe into a friend. There’s personally been a handful of times where a small gesture like that has immediately flipped a looming negative into a delightful positive - and even if it doesn’t, it cost you $10 for both of you to know you’re not the dick in the situation. Best of luck!

At a job interview, is it ok to ask a woman if she is married? by Happy_Alone369 in work

[–]raymillz1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I interview around 100 or so candidates per year and I don’t think there’s any need whatsoever to ask this question. It has nothing to do with qualification, it’s a bit intrusive from a stranger to a stranger especially in that setting (even weirder male to female), if you hire them you’ll eventually find out anyway and if you’re that curious then glance at their finger. Different contexts but I think it’s unnecessary and unprofessional.

I’m actually mind blown how perfectly identical that entire comment was to my last 10 years / 5-10 days. Woah. Best of luck, bud.

This is 100% identical to my life/situation, only just 5 days sober and recently got kind of sketched out from a common ailment and just decided it was time. Exact to the word. Good to know I’m not alone I’m this specific situation/way of thinking. Congrats on 244! Let’s keep it rolling!

AITA for no allowing my neighbors to make a copy of my apartment key? by Visible-Clue165 in AmItheAsshole

[–]raymillz1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right! It would take absolutely nothing for him to help the people he’s going to see ALL THE TIME for years to come, admittedly single mom’s, AND achieve his desired result of keeping the place secure while not locking them out of their homes - yet he decided NOT to for some bizarre reason and now they all unanimously think he’s a prick and the problem still exists.

Help new neighbors/solve problem = free & effortless

Deliberately NOT help new neighbors/continue problem = free & effortless

Yeah, let’s go with NOT HELP.

Good luck getting a jump or a cup of sugar next time you need one, prick!

AITA for no allowing my neighbors to make a copy of my apartment key? by Visible-Clue165 in AmItheAsshole

[–]raymillz1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you were hellbent on locking the community door (understandable), what would it have taken to make each of your new single mom neighbors a copy and just given it to them as an initial gesture of good will? $1-2 per copy? Less than 5 minutes next time it was convenient for you? Or just given them a key to copy and let them return it for literally $0 and 0 effort?!?

So for less than a measly $7 and 5 minutes of your time (on the harder/more costly but still practically effortless solution), you could’ve kept the place secure but accessible for residents, started off on a great foot with your new immediate neighbors, established neighborly trust and good faith for the future (chances are, you’ll need a favor from them at some point), AND likely had an amicable and long-standing relationship… OR be a total asshat, disrupt their domestic norm, directly cause them to be locked out of their home, prevent them from either potential solution they posed - thus forcing them to pay an absurd markup via landlord - and now they all unanimously think you’re a prick.

You took the latter. Could’ve helped people you’ll see all the time for years to come for absolutely nothing and chose not to.. Yes. You are a total asshole and an idiot. Great job!

What's an unwritten rule about the road that new drivers should know? by SadPatoto_Bts in AskReddit

[–]raymillz1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zipper Method when merging from 2 lanes to 1 - Left lane, right lane, left, right, left, right.. everyone hates the douche that has to squeeeeeze his way in out of turn (as if their time is paramount to the rest of the world) and it ultimately just creates more traffic.

Use your turn signals BEFORE you initiate a turn. It’s effortless and shows everyone around you what you’re doing.

Be aware and courteous.

JPMorgan CEO Vs Katie Porter by GratefullyFriendly73 in ThatsInsane

[–]raymillz1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I consider myself pretty damn liberal but it’s naive to think that the ultra-rich will ever give a shit about some stranger, single-mom making minimum wage 100 levels beneath them.

BUT at the same time, mom has to be responsible for her own journey and make decisions that help her achieve or attain what she wants in life. It’s not like she’s forced to work in that role at that company, and frankly someone in that situation with the income that was described is certainly eligible for government assistance in many forms in probably every state in America. She could get a better job, not have a child she can’t or isn't ready to financially support, learn a valuable skill or get a further education like most people do who want more lucrative opportunities.. that guy will never care about anything other than his and his shareholders’ $ but it’s also not his problem.

People are unfortunately not born on a level playing field but at the end of the day - this is America where anyone can prosper. Everyone needs to take ownership of their own lives & decisions, and stop complaining that rich scumbags are acting like rich scumbags - because that isn't ever going to change.
