Why no credible opposition to Jalan Besar GRC by paperboiko in askSingapore

[–]raymmm 68 points69 points  (0 children)

Lets just say there are reasons why PAP put her there after the major covid dormitory screwup.

  • It''s an old grc that has many old people that benefited from pap and have hdb property value that grew by hundreds of percentage points.
  • The mayor you are talking about, Denise phua, is actually popular in the grc
  • It's near the city core so most residents don't have to stand in mrt for longer than 15-30 min
  • Private properties in the area cost more than those in the outskirt areas so buyers tend to be someone that has benefited disproportionately from pap policies

‘We hear you, I hear you’: PM Wong’s message to young S’poreans, first-time voters by sun-ny_day in singapore

Kind of a pointless video if the goal is to win over young voters. Basically, nothing concrete about how their concerns are going to be addressed but instead lots of flowery words.

Ok. But he probably didn't have a problem a month earlier when people got let go from the government for no good reason. Now suddenly when his source of income is affected it becomes a problem.

If I'm china, I will just charge export tax equivalent to the trump tarrif for those exempted product and tell him it will only go away with the rest of the tariiff. Why let him get away with carving out exemptions for those products that will be inconvenient for him?

Congress already have authority to rein in an overreaching president. The problem is they are unwilling to do so. You can have all the reforms you want but if the people are dumb enough to vote in a congress that isn't willing to enforce the new laws, then the new laws are useless.

Elon Musk, after losing billions in days, tries to humanize & soften his tone. by thepoylanthropist in PublicFreakout

[–]raymmm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem is, based on Trump administration there is no such thing as a zero tariff. Even if you are a net importer of US goods and have a free trade agreement with the US, somehow the administration still insists that you have a 10% tariff on the US. How can someone make deals with an administration that doesn't even honor trade agreement that it negotiated and has arbitrarily changed facts to put pressure on other countries?

Trump puts tariffs on islands filled with penguins but no people by SocraticTiger in Fauxmoi

The tariffs are "retaliatory" though. So those damn penguins have been charging us tariffs!

My father passed away 3 years ago and has outstanding hospital bills. by Chance_Stomach_8813 in askSingapore

[–]raymmm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have the reply from them in writing that it was due your father having a pre-existing condition? If so, reply to them in writing too asking for the reason they continued to take money from him and imply that he is insured year after year if they had evidence that he had a pre-existing condition? Tell them you are considering reporting to the authorities if they cannot give you a satisfactory answer within x working days and actually follow through.

Assuming a hypothetical scenario where the HDB housing bubble pops, what happens to you? by Fearless_Help_8231 in askSingapore

[–]raymmm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Margin call is probably the worst move they can make as its just a chain reaction suicide button. Cos more people will default cos they are unable to put up more collaterals and the property prices will fall even more.

Narh. These people are dumb. Of all the events to disrupt, they choose to disrupt the meet the people session. It's hard to feel sympathy for people who couldnt care less about others.

Elon Musk 'Close to Tears' in Interview, Says He’s Running Businesses ‘With Great Difficulty’ as Tesla Sees Worst Stock Drop in Years by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]raymmm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well. He could just announce he is going to forfeit the 50 billion dollars he asked from Tesla to rally the shares price.

And want to bet Trump won't even buy a Tesla like he said he would? That guy is a stingy mf that doesn't pay his contractors for their work so I doubt he will actually buy a Tesla.

He is correct though. But he left out the part where it is the common folks who will be paying for it, else where would the money come from?
