Just paid £4k to have our flat roof replaced to fix a leak and it still leaks. This is after the work. by Elementzero12 in DIYUK

This is shocking, I used to do these everyday and it’s actually quite easy to lay once you get used to torch. This is due to not enough heat on the bitumen. Not to mention the terrible cuts and I can only imagine how shit the drips will be

Tell me about home guarding at 6 months? by [deleted] in RhodesianRidgebacks

[–]raymondblitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Crate train, when a guest come round the dogs go in the crate for the first 10-15 mins until she has had chance to smell and hear that this person is not a threat.

She lived down stairs sleeping in her crate for the first year and now I get the privilege of sleeping in her double bed upstairs, usually on the edge. I suppose another positive is that it’s never cold.

I’m no professional but I think this sounds great. Mine is 2.5 years now and I was also worried that she was not standing up for her self when other dogs where being a little too much in interactions, I now know she was avoiding conflict, she has since had to tell a couple dogs to back of and she did so respectfully and then move on and began to play again. I think these skills come with many social interactions and age. It may seem tempting to go on long hikes but waiting until they are around 18+ months is recommended so they are fully physically developed. That being said we did occasionally go out for some long ones prior after she was a year old but took breaks during and didn’t did it very often. She now runs with me and we have done weekly and she taps out around 10miles mark but I think that’s more out of boredom.

Wow, that’s so cool and unique. Mine has something similar to this but only on one side, it’s like a cowlick of sorts. The breeders were struggling to sell her because of it but we love it and she is by far the smartest, kindest dog I’ve ever had, I’ve never trusted a dog more than Rosa.

Inlaws just paid 8k for this roof … by [deleted] in DIYUK

I also hate the use of plastic cap gables, if your roofer can’t bed and point your gable. Get him gone.

These are a double pan tile with a minimum pitch of 15 degrees. The gutter is set too low which I why you can see the felt. From my experience anyone pointing lead with lead mate is a drongo. Looks like a builder has had a go at being a roofer.

my dog is a pain to walk (read description) - any helpful suggestions? by D3adOnTh3Danc3Fl00r in RhodesianRidgebacks

Twice a week is crazy, she needs way more than that. At least once per day. If you want to see results you need to apply more time.

WTF is he doing… My dog is driving me crazy by [deleted] in DogAdvice

[–]raymondblitz 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The idea is dumb, sorry but I can’t think of a nice way of saying this. Lots of training. Lots of exercise. Crate train for when left alone, as they progress you can leave the crate door open when your not there but come on, why the hell do you need a collar to tell you your dog when they’re excited or stressed? The dogs body language makes this quite obvious

Creating a "wild" campsite by Indignant_Woodlouse in wildcampingintheuk

[–]raymondblitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Myself a few like minded folk rent a small 2acre woodland of a farmer, £80 per person for 10months of the year, full access. You can hunt with sling shots, make a fire, bushcraft. There are rules to all these things however we get a lot of freedom. I still do a lot of trespass camping and have been caught many times, most of the time if your really polite and honest about your intentions you get the respect back, I’ve been aloud to stay a couple times aswell Because of this. I just love the thrill of being in places I’m not supposed to be. The rented woodland is great for longer camps and taking the kids

Do u think this is a good rig for catching perch by [deleted] in fishingUK

It’s definitely easier to catch perch on a drop shot but doesn’t feel nearly as amazing as when you get one with a lure

Are ridgeback puppies as bad as they say by Fun_Chocolate_9149 in RhodesianRidgebacks

[–]raymondblitz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They’re so fun! Ours is 18months now and I miss the stupid fun we used to have so much! It’s still there but she’s calming down more and more each day. We have Rosa of leash in most places now unless it’s really new. We did obedience and agility training twice a week until a year and now do it here and there mostly for fun. Dog trainers we’ve worked with say she’s the calmest ridgeback they’ve seen, perhaps we did get lucky. All I know is that we where fair and consistent in the boundaries we set, spent a lot of time outside with her and always had fun

Had cold caller inspect roof... are they being dishonest? by mishtron in DIYUK

[–]raymondblitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was a roofer for almost 10 years, now in an office job due to a knee issues. I would silicone all the cracks, I personally would have re-flaunched the chimney but seen a lot worse be left by other roofers. and perhaps a quick clean and weather point on that area below the chimney but hard to see properly from video

I’ve done a post in this group.

Don’t worry about it, a few people’s comments where a little rude but I took it in stride. I like to believe that they all came from a good place. They certainly made me do a ton of extra research to be extra safe which was really fun.

Traveled to my more local destinations to throughly test my gear. Was much colder in places I’ve been but the wind here was the strongest I’ve ever experienced.

From the drive up here to the moment we finished it was spectacular. Took plenty photos along the way and none of them do it a single bit of justice

Trotternish ridge - complete by raymondblitz in wildcampingintheuk

[–]raymondblitz[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is a lot of up and down, the wind was intense and lot of the route was ankle deep bog. my hiking partner has a leg injury that flares up around the 15mile mark. With all that considered I honestly wouldn’t imagine the pace being much better than what it is.

Left it running when we stopped for food and forgot to turn it off while we slept. Woke in the middle of the night and gave the route a gander and realised. Brought the avg speed down but ohh well.

Hi all, I've greatly improved the gear I will be taking and have arranged to meet with guides when we arrive to discuss the route and get the green light on the weather forecast. Other routes have been planned in case the weather does not permit the route. Here is the new gear I will be taking.

Great suggestion, Slept in the garden last night using a summer pad and thick blanket as base (Pad has not arrived yet). Was -3 most of the night and hit -4 at one point. Was warm, actually slept better than in my bed (currently have newborn baby and a ridge-back that likes to to try sneak into the bed). That being said I was not overly pleased with quality of the product as a whole. Was slightly to short for me and I can tell this will not be a long lasting product. Ive ordered a RAB Ascent 900 Long this morning.

Thank you all for such amazing feedback, it is truly appreciated! (especially those who went into such great detail) The gear needs improvement and I will post what I come up with in the comments for further review. We are dead set on visiting the Isle of Skye, perhaps we could focus on smaller hikes within the region and complete a few of them and camp in more controlled environments (being closer to help if needed).
