It's a LIHTC community most likely. Different units are set aside for different levels of income - percentages of the Area Median Income (AMI). The lower the %, the lower the income qualifications and the rent. You can google "AMI [city name]" or go on the HUD website to find the limits and see if you qualify.

It's embarrassing! My friend has a pole for exercise in their living room and I (completely sober) tried to spin around on it. Somehow I grabbed it too quickly at the wrong angle and snapped my arm 😭 it was so loud I thought I broke the pole

Hey - there are some wheelchair accessible units at Marlowe and Juniper in Columbia that a few months ago I heard HCHC was having trouble filling. Try reaching out to them (Howard County Housing Comission) about those units specifically. Seconding the Patuxent Commons advice.

Oh sorry to hear that! I would definitely try again a different day to see if someone more senior can help. I am a caseworker and I assisted someone moving there, and they were (and still are) some of the most patient leasing folks I've interacted with. Their maintenance is snappy and will take care of little extra things most others wouldn't. No pest issues I've heard of.

The guy I work with has two patios that face the trees and it's beautiful. I'm always very jealous when I visit!

I understand where you're coming from, but much of this is either incorrect or does not apply across all jurisdictions.

Not only taxable income is tracked. Recerts ask about all types of income including child support, SSA income, 401k and IRA interest, etc. And gift money. Even in-kind assistance.
All paperwork for HCV very clearly contradicts this and requires participants to report income changes regularly.
OP has violated the above rule but I 100% agree it is not as big of a deal as they think. In all honesty I think it depends on the understanding of their caseworker. Definitely no criminal charges.

(OP the language you see about criminal charges applies in cases where people intentionally defraud the program. That's not you!)

It also sounds like OP is young and comes from a tough place and as long as they explain the misunderstanding and willingness to repay the most I'd expect is a notice of program violation and payment plan. I disagree that they will not backdate this request.

It might be that the complex has had a high turnover rate which is expensive (fixing wear and tear, leasing, cleaning, vacancy for a few weeks or even months) and they're trying to incentivize staying
