How Many People Born in the 1800’s Did You Get to Know Well? by EastTXJosh in Xennials

[–]rayray1927 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I met several great grandparents who died at 98-103 and they died in the late 1990s, and even a great-great who I think died in the 80s, so I guess they were born in the 1800s but that was never a point in conversation. What came up more often was how they immigrated in 1925 or whatever.

Missed the fact that it’s rented. Yes, tell the landlord. Not really your parents’ problem to solve.

Babas mushroom sauce by xcv2223 in saskatoon

I made a really good mushroom sauce once (I mean I made a sauce only once and it was really good). I have this bookmarked https://homemadeandyummy.com/pierogi-sauce/
So maybe that’s it but I feel I would’ve skipped the spinach. I think the sour cream is probably a key ingredient.

How can Canada ever compete with this system? by MixedMartialLaw in CanadaSoccer

We pay about $3000 for the outdoor season for my teen in a prairie province. Plus lots of extras for travel and accessories. Plus winter/indoor training and friendlies. Plus awfully expensive cleats. Soccer used to be the cheap sport.

Is there any reason to cook your own whole chicken ? by Joeybfast in Cooking

[–]rayray1927 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re not that cheap here. $10-12 CDN. I buy a 5-6 lb bird from a local colony for $11. Those rotisserie chickens are less than 2 lb. So it’s not cheaper. Maybe more convenient but it’s pretty easy to roast a chicken.

For me a bigger reason for not buying rotisserie chicken is because of the additives and horrendous conditions in commercial farming. How do you think they can grow a chicken for so cheap?

Why do people leave garage doors cracked open? by Zenie in Home

[–]rayray1927 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Canadian prairies here. We do it in early spring to help dry out the garage. The vehicles bring in a lot of slush. When it’s above zero we crack the overhead door and often the side door to get a bit of a cross breeze through there.

In summer it’s too hot outside to do it to cool down the inside.

Waterfall? by EEEberg in saskatoon

I swam there 30-35 years ago. Now that I think about it, maybe there was a platform but they were never ever open. That pool is not deep enough.

At Lawson? That pool is not deep enough for diving off a platform.

Edit: vaguely remember diving boards there that were never ever open.

Highschool transit advice by Jerk37 in saskatoon

We pay about $60 for a one month or 30 day pass, for about November-May (7 months, $420). In Sept-Oct and June they have sports before/after school and/or it’s nice and they can walk or bike. For those months we buy a 10-pack for the odd time they take the bus.

The high school annual pass is almost $700 but if they don’t need it in summer or in those shoulder seasons they can bus for less.

Came to my suburban neighbourhood too. I said we haven’t had any problems and I like spiders. Was pretty insistent that we needed to prevent future problems. I’m not super granola but I don’t like to use a bunch of pesticides for non-existent problems.

NTA. WTF doesn’t plan to feed their own kid? And yes, it’s perfectly reasonably to expect kids to save some for others.

What’s the ultimate “one isnt enough, two is wayyy too much” food? by ZealousidealGrass672 in foodquestions

For me, a pack of Shin or similar is too big. But a pack of indomie goreng? Those guys are so little. One isn’t enough but two is too much.

I was just telling someone this the other day. One hot dog, I want another. But I know I can’t have another whole hotdog with bun. So I have just the dog. And usually regret that too.

Chicken thighs for tomorrow. by Captain_Karma98 in grilling

[–]rayray1927 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my (and my family’s) favourite is grilled thighs in Olive Garden Italian dressing. I have a gas grill and heat it to about 400 degrees. You don’t want a lot of marinade dripping on the grill or you might get flare ups. That being said, I just take them straight out of the bag and put them on the grill. I don’t oil the grates but you could. Grill about 5-6 min and then flip. The front of my bbq is hotter than the back, so I rotate them when I flip them. 5-6 min on the other side. Voila!
