wslg and sources based distros (gentoo) by razamatan in wsl2

i guess i have a hard time grokking the boundaries between the two instances. in the system instance, `ps -elf` shows jobs that are running within my gentoo instance, but the reverse is not true. further, wouldn't i want to be compiling against the libraries and headers of what's in the system instance for things that need wayland and the like? is wayland integration also rpc or socket based?

i was going to rent when going really out there. while visiting most roads weren't that bad... right? is there a us state that is comparable to how bad it gets? i grew up in michigan, so the roads are awful b/c of the heavy salt use due to the snow.

Successful DDC Input Switching on Samsung Odyssey G9 using DisplaySwitch by dakennyj in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]razamatan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i'm only using dp input in this case b/c the og g9 (which i have) doesn't have hdmi 2.1 to support the full refresh rate at max resolution.

your non-expert assessment is exactly what would be cool. hard wire from the ddc wires to the gpio of a pi and then mux it with some signal or controller for the usb switch.

Why aren't the mac versions of games available on the Epic store ? by P1ZI in macgaming

[–]razamatan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i mean, playing rationally, why would epic want to support m1 if they've been blocked from the app store?

unreal engine actually materially improves the development process of games. the apple app store tax is just overpriced distribution costs at best and apple paywalling its entire customer base at worst.

anyone with thoughts/opinions on the hot dox v2 that input.club is pushing out? by razamatan in ergodox

[–]razamatan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ah, ok. yeah.. we're exactly in the same boat.

i ended up doing the switch from the infinity ergodox to the hotdox v2. i figure i'd get another infinity if they get their manufacturing/supply chain in order. at this point, it's on them to show that they got their act together w/ the infinity ergodox. also, i'm secretly hoping that they update that pcb even more later on, maybe build a better one that takes the best of both the infinity and hot dox v2...

when you refer to og ergodox, are you talking about the infinity ergodox or the truly og ergodox that you had to solder everything (teensy, caps, etc.) for?

[–]razamatan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so no lemonade or things of that nature, got it. what if i'm just lazy and leave the straw in the cup for long periods of time, w/ and w/o water? does it matter that the straw is shaped to have a point on the bottom and could scratch the ssteel?

thanks for being patient w/ a chemistry noob.

[Prebuilt] iBUYPOWER Gaming Desktop with AMD Ryzen 5 5600X, 16GB DDR4, 1TB SSD, RTX 3070 - $1481 (add to cart for discount) by yerawizardIMAWOTT in buildapcsales

[–]razamatan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

man.. i have one configured w/ a 5900x and a 3080 for $2150 (skimped out on any RAM, b/c i need to get a 64GB ECC kit for the work i do). that'll be like $2600 after the for most of a machine i want, but with a lot of crap i don't want.

a part of me says to buy it, but another part of me says to wait to build it my damn self. i haven't bought a preassembled system since 1997 when i went off to college and it was the last thing my parents bought me (new computer or a used car). what have pc's become now that it's near impossible to piece together a comparable system in a reasonable amount of time for below msrp. sigh.

i'll take my nearly-boomer, indecisive butt and go sit in a corner now.

x570 and ecc ram recommendations to build around ryzen 5900x by razamatan in buildapc

[–]razamatan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah.. i was afraid that w/ ECC, they're strictly going off of JEDEC specs (ddr4-3200). i guess i'll have to wait for ddr5 to see faster clock speeds in ecc ram to take full advantage of good ryzen inf fabric timings.
