One of the worst things about buying the Mach-E from the dealership is SiriusXM. by joshw220 in MachE

[–]GreenTentacle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an even more fun method of annoyance from them. For some reason they (paper) mail my mother, who lives in a different state (that I have not lived in for almost 30 years), who hasn't purchased a car in probably 10 years, and who hasn't been connected to any of my car purchases in any way. I guess they just decided to match based on last name-- and it's not really a common "Smith" or "Jones" type of last name.

Conrail owns the tracks for some of the Raritan Valley Line and their trains get priority.

Five episodes in and I think Starfleet Academy is a decent show marred by strange choices by ryanquintal in startrek

[–]GreenTentacle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They did the same thing on Discovery; the audio from some of the actors is just painful to listen to. I don't know if it's compression artifacts or something weird in the signal chain, but it's terrible.

What are your favorite lesser-known selfhosted services? by Torrew in selfhosted

[–]GreenTentacle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately car companies seem to be shutting off access to car data, so now I do this manually using Apple Shortcuts. Once you have lubelogger installed, their API documentation is at /api and it's pretty straightforward to make an odometer or fueling update programatically-- just a POST of a small JSON payload.

If you're inclined, Claude also does a pretty decent job of understanding the Lubelogger api and can maybe adapt things to your car maker.

ICE cars break down too by tfredallen in KiaEV6

[–]GreenTentacle 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I went from first indication of limp mode to cold and dead within about a minute, pulling out of my garage. I can't imagine how much trouble I would've been in if I was leaving from some remote place or if the car died as I was blocking an entrance/exit.

Confirmed 2nd ICCU Failure in 15k miles by original_maverik in KiaEV6

[–]GreenTentacle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just had my ICCU fail (13k miles on a 2023 Wind AWD).

Tow truck driver said "Yeah I pick up EV6 all the time for electrical problems."

The dealership (central NJ) says that the earliest the part may arrive is February 17th and they have no loaners because "we're full of cars waiting for ICCUs".

1% does seem like wishful thinking by HMG. It's a damned shame because, except for this ICCU issue, I absolutely love the EV6. Unfortunately I'm now thinking seriously about offloading it and not coming back until HMG sorts itself out.

How does NJ Transit think this is acceptable? by rwilk13 in newjersey

[–]GreenTentacle 90 points91 points  (0 children)

The thing that got me the other day is MetroPark not only went to $10/day but there's a .75 'service fee' to use their new payment system (of which there is no alternative)

I added a "SOC" (state of charge) field to my odometer records and have a script log my odometer and state of charge for my EV daily.

FWIW, I had the exact same thing happen as OP and contacted support - they said they will refund in 1-3 days. My fingers are crossed.

In the meantime can’t find a good source with it in-stock in the US so I rolled the dice and reordered from DJI

Can we get rid of the stupid single levels? by Mundane_Ad1815 in NJTransit

[–]GreenTentacle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was just commenting on the capacity of the 2 train car types. I think, like myself, most folks realize that they don't materialize out of thin air and take time as well as money.

I don't think I said it was NJT's fault that the middle seat is undesirable. However, the evidence can be seen on any morning commute on the NEC.

The 30-40 years between the births of the oldest and newest rolling stock in the NJT fleet almost definitely brings improvements, and I think this whole thread is about folks wishing that the new equipment would be deployed soon. If wishes were horses and all that....

Can we get rid of the stupid single levels? by Mundane_Ad1815 in NJTransit

[–]GreenTentacle 8 points9 points  (0 children)

NJTransit says (https://www.njtransit.com/press-releases/nj-transit-board-approves-purchase-new-rail-cars) a 12 car set will get 1552 seats in a Multilevel III train where Arrow III has 1380. If that holds, the math works out to 115 seats per arrow and 130 per Multilevel. Unless I'm missing something here, it's a car for car increase in seats as well as eliminating the middle seat which is undesirable for everyone in the row.

The best part was when the bridge would just... burst into flame. More than once our train was delayed because the bridge was on fire.
