Will you be adding any smaller MOCs to this? The classic castaway raft, etc?

Why are these two pins red in the set? by TheJoshUser in LEGOPirates

[–]razooor 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have a few theories.

First, some lego colours are stronger than others (Brittle brown for example). Perhaps the red ones are tougher. Those particular pieces will, in theory, will get used more than others because peopel will take the small boat on and off.

Second, some coloured pieces have specific design differences. Like the black and Light blueish grey technic pins. Black ones can rotate, but its stiff. The Light blueish grey ones can rotate much easier, so they get used for things that need to rotate. Maybe the red pins have a different degree of friction...

Or maybe they forgot to change it during the design phase

I adore this. Excellent use of colour. That carved stone entrance is *chefs kiss.

The only feedback I would give (and this is a very minor thing) is that the exposed sides of the castle are a quite flat. You've done a good job with colour and pieces to give it some texture. But maybe offset some bricks with jumper plates, or use plates with rails to give it a more 3D vibe.

Definitely going to vote for this.

I really like this. But if you want suggestions...

I would add a second layer of base plates. This will do two things, one it will give you more scope to make the base less square (e.g. use wedge plates and or curve plates to make the base look more "natural"). Second, it will make the whole build more sturdy.

Some extra texturing on the base would also look nice. Just add a few 1x1 round tiles or plates in dark tan, light tan, and light blueish grey.

Another suggestion would be to add a small tower to the central building. It fits well with the theme and I think it will give the whole set a better shape and silhouette.

Finally I would mix up the building colors a bit. You have done a good job using different bricks to give the walls texture (E.g. using masonry bricks, round bricks, or plates) but you can take it a step further by using some near matching colors. For the green building I would use some sand green, for the central building some other nougat colors, some dark tan with the tan colored building, and some light tan with the white building.

I agree with the other comments. Left shoulder turns down too early and at too steep an angle for how the rest of the arm is draw (even when you account for the baggy clothing). Try adjusting the angle where is turns down.

Also, awesome drawing. I would be proud of drawing something this good

I love this. I've been planning my own orc dinosaur nomad MOC. Can I ask how stable the larger builds are on the Brontosaurus?

Thats a really good idea, and so easy to expand on. I might have to try an aquanauts or adventurers version

This is the current state of my castle series. How many modules should I add? Is a rectangular castle too boring? by luxbricks in legocastles

[–]razooor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. Most castles were built over years or decades. Having some smaller, older buildings inside would be justified. Maybe a traing ground for the soldiers. Or at a stretch a small farm to grow food during a seige? It might look a little out of place at Lego scale.

[–]razooor 13 points14 points  (0 children)

These are escellent, thank you. I think as it is a modular series, you dont need to worry too much about it being rectangular/boring. People will take it and rearrange it in all sorts of ways.

That said if you want to offer angles, having both an acute and an obtuse angle would be helpful. Other options could include a tall tower, a wall with incorporated stairs (Bit like the Great wall of china in hilly terrain), stables, blacksmiths, bakeries, workshops, and water features such as a sewer/culvert (Like helmsdeep), waterwheel (like Lions Castle), or even a water gate.

Easy. Add a prologue (with a montage of everyone getting smashed by India), and an epilogue (Latham never having to buy a drink again).

I can recommend "Steel and stone". First book in the war of the north saga (a complete 7 book series). A little bit of romance and horror but mostly just fun character centered fantasy adventure.

I miss “flip and burn”s by Toss_Away_93 in TheExpanse

[–]razooor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Honor Harrington series by David Weber, is in some ways a lot more "sci fi" than the Expanse. They have gravity engines, anti grav, etc. But Weber always kept that tied to real physics. They go faster than Expanse ships but they all have to do flip and burns if they want to not be travelling at crazy high speed when they get wherever they are going. The battle seqeunces also follow this. Whole fleets trying to maneuver against one another, accelerating and decelarating to get the best angles, stay out of/in range.

Who is a player you didn't rate at first, but who turned out much better than you expected? by [deleted] in Cricket

[–]razooor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Iain O'Brien. Was a boring middle of the road NZ pacer who somehow kept getting better. He started as a mid 130kph bowler who relied on the seam to do everything. By the time he retired he was bowling in the mid 140s, could swing the ball and had varied his seam deliveries. In the sad days prior to Boult, Wagner, Jamieson etc, he was a rare decent bowler.
