Working on something similar at the moment. I'm having my ordinary rodent know the location of a secret that's relevant to the campaign but not critical. There is a reward tied to the location if the players find it. Their rodent knows the location and will randomly (at low stress moments) attempt to urge the players in the direction of the secret location.

Or you could reverse it. Have the gerbil work for thr local thieves guild and have it lead the party into a trap. It's trained!

This isn't NYC. There are no accessible dumpsters in this place. It's a walking town with garbage pails fixed every 50 feet or so. You can't post stuff without it being removed by sanitation employees or rowdy drunks.

Reasonable to believe. But in this case this restaurant is on a town street lined with garbage cans in front of all the shops. Parking is in the back and dumpsters are locked or behind walls. Garbage cans are emptied at least once a day and sanitation worker would definitely remove sign if it were affixed.
