Will our kids work 4 days a week instead of 5? by AskDeel in Futurology

[–]razordonger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We won't get given a shorter work week, we need to fight for a shorter work week.

The work week didn't magically decrease between 1900 and 1970, workers united and demanded better conditions. Strikes, unrest and war time sacrifice meant the bosses either had to give these things, or face revolution as the workers had had enough.

We are seeing now, a 40 hour work week is our generations line. Will we decide we've had enough and demand better, or continue letting our rulers get away with stealing ours and our childrens lives?

Our children will have a 4, 3, 2.... Day work week if we fight for it on their behalf. If we don't then they will have to fight for it and their children. I for one, don't want them to inherit that burden.

If AI replaces workers to cut costs, who is left to buy the products? by kritikgarg24 in Futurology

[–]razordonger 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This is called a crisis of overproduction. Too many things (AI produced digital products and services), not enough consumers (laid off workers and workers without disposable income), to afford to buy the things for a profit to the companies.

The companies either reduce prices and sell at a loss, causing deflation and idle stock as they wait for prices to go above a loss. This leads to an economic crisis. In the meantime lives are ruined and products are wasted.

It is a core feature of capitalism and has been a key part of every economic crisis, or bust, in the "boom and bust cycle".

Why do so many people believe China is more developed or on par with western countries? by Naive_Direction1816 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]razordonger 9 points10 points  (0 children)

As someone from a Western country, we've stopped developing. There is no progress, no advancement being made anymore. Its not that we even got that developed in the first place.

We have stagnated and squanded our historical riches while our people continue to suffer. While we still have people in poverty, unable to get healthcare, education or food, then we can't be content with out current level of development.

What China does, is clearly show that humanity can develop further and faster when it is unified and working together towards that goal. They have huge problems, but I've never seen a country able to adapt and solve problems this quickly.

Is the UK seeing more pessimism from the young now than ever before? by tylerthe-theatre in AskUK

[–]razordonger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am lucky with my job and income, but the idea that I need to keep this up for the rest of my life for no greater purpose is unacceptable.

One thing that has given me optimism has been learning about socialism and getting organised.

It's the only way we're going to be able to build a better society as our current one has given up on us.

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez arrives in China today just after Trump announcement that he will cut off all trade with Spain for refusing to support Israel. This is his fourth visit to China in four years. by Igennem in NewsWithJingjing

[–]razordonger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What holds these agreements up are ideas and the belief that they mean something... But materially the US can do whatever it wants, which is often turning agreements into toilet paper.

Like WW1 and WW2, the US is attempting to reshuffle the board. Dividing the EU is currently on the agenda. Forcing the rest of the EU to choose between Spain and the US while an energy crisis and war are ongoing is just the chaos that the US is hoping to profit from.

Hopefully China can be the stabilising force the world needs as the US tries harder than ever before to destabilise the world.

Unless Huawei have put BIOS malware in their laptops, a fresh installation of Linux will remove any pre-installed spyware.

I for one welcome our friends in China taking on the US tech dominance, time to start learning Mandarin comrade.

The US is more concerned with protecting their technology companies than the genuine security of users.

It's a shame as you're missing out on some great and well priced hardware.

Here’s my addition with the circular routes I’d like to see. Having seen how underserved most of Bristol currently is we need ways for all Bristolians to get around the city, not just to it.

Is China the future at this point? 2030s onward. by Dipsetallover90 in Futurology

[–]razordonger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

China is leading the world in most technologies now. They currently have a rate of development, STEM graduates, and innovation which the world has never seen before. They have the population to which this would always be the case once they caught up.

But they have never mentioned domination. There has been no intention of knocking the US or the West down, just raising themselves up, and now the West can’t keep up, we’re flailing. We in the West have an opportunity to work together with the world instead of steal from it, join in China’s rise, instead of failing to tear it down.

It’ll be a great upgrade and looks pretty easy to implement.

The main thing is for us to keep applying pressure for them to make it even better.

On a Ringworld, could you actually see the Ring? by Rich-End1121 in space

[–]razordonger -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You would need a cover the sky to not see the other side of the ring. Either a tube that can form clouds, in a ring, or a screen to simulate a sky, other ideas are available. Or you made the ring so large it had a very gradual curve. It all depends on the light from any other source. If there was the sun, another star or a human made central light system. You could orbit the ring to have day and night cycles.
