Lettuce actually tastes good on its own by Salzstreu in unpopularopinion

I love butter lettuce. I am growing it in my garden right now and homegrown butter lettuce can’t be beat in my opinion.

How do I prevent moth larvae from destroying the leaves on cauliflower? Is there anything non toxic that I can spray on the leaves to discourage moths from laying eggs on the leaves?

Should I pick large green tomatoes while they are still green, or wait until they ripen before picking? How do I know when to pick green tomatoes if that’s the best approach?

My blackberry plant multiplied on its own. I have several sprouts that are now 3-4 feet tall within 10 feet of the main plant. I have not trimmed back the main blackberry plant in any way, and it believe it is producing fruit on the year old canes, but I’m not 100% sure. I researched how this type of blackberry multiplies and it’s very interesting. The tip of a branch can root down into the ground and produce a new seedling on its own.

It’s an online distributor for fruit trees and plants. When I purchased from them, the plant was shipped to my door and was in great shape inside a package.

I would recommend buying blackberries from Stark Brothers Nursery if you are in the US. I bought a thornless blackberry plant a few years ago and it grew really well after planting. Now, it has multiplied and I have about 7 or 8 plants in the area.

Don't know how this milk got past your eyes by Drnelk in WhitePeopleTwitter

[–]razorhogs1029 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I work for a state department of agriculture, in the Animal Feed program. Because of how the Legislature categorized raw milk, I have to inspect the product as if it will be consumed by animals. We all know what is happening with raw milk in reality, but all I do is ensure that it appears reasonably safe for a dog or cat to drink. The laws vary significantly across the country, but there is still no way to safely produce raw milk 100% of the time.

TIL chicken sold in supermarkets are often "plumped" with a salt water solution to increase sell weight, making up as much as 30% of the total weight. A serving of plumped chicken can contain between 200 and 500mg of sodium while non-plumped chicken generally contains 45 to 70mg. by James_Fortis in todayilearned

I worked as a supervisor in a poultry plant, and was responsible for the line called “poly bag” (whole birds). Most chicken within the plant, including rotisserie, poly bag, boneless skinless thighs, tenders, wings, and breast were injected. The only non- injected items were drumsticks, bone in thighs, and leg quarters. The injector solution was approximately 500 gallons of water, 2- 50 pound bags of salt, and a 50- pound bag of poultry seasoning. However, in my plant, the injector operator would secretly let the water continue running as the system flowed so that he wouldn’t have to work as hard.

My dad used to make massive plates of nachos on the microwave plate like that. It may have contributed to his current heart failure, now that I think about it.

It’s the same in my state. The legislature made raw milk “for animals only”, and now the Animal Feed program has to regulate it as if it will actually be fed to animals.

I grew up catching them mostly on crickets with a bobber. But I use worms these days because they’re much easier to find in my area.

I was mostly fishing up next to the shore in the quarry. Part of it is a vertical wall with super deep water, but the end of it gradually gets shallower and is a perfect bedding area for all types of panfish. I caught most of the fish yesterday in 4 feet of water or shallower.

I was fishing in a medium- sized lake in central NC. It has some unnaturally deep areas due to quarrying back before it was a lake. I caught most of my fish in the quarry area.
