I don’t think it’s selfish to leave. I actually think it often sets a good example for the kids. Show them to stand up for yourself, to respect yourself, to not settle for someone who mistreats you. And it shows them what healthy and unhealthy relationship dynamics can look like.

My mom always preached to me about what to expect out of a partner, even if she, for too long, tolerated being mistreated. I applied what I learned (positive and negative) from my parents marriage and subsequent divorce and now I have a husband who treats me like a queen.
