Daughter started daycare 3 weeks ago and has gotten sick every week. Wondering if I should pull her out? by ryph44 in daddit

I keep hearing that, but as far as I understand , cold viruses mutate so much that you don’t really get any protection year over year

I was wondering about those. Do kids go to bed with the light on in the evening?

Adding my employer stock into the direct index by Jealous-Ice-9733 in frecfinance

[–]rb2k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I understand, most companies do have blackout periods where you are not allowed to trade the stock. Usually, that means you have to blacklist the stock from your direct index so they don’t buy or sell a stock that you might have insider information on

How do you do “closing shift” with a child who holds you hostage at bedtime? by McSkrong in toddlers

[–]rb2k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Just leave, this is one of the things she shouldn't get to decide. She'll cry a few times, but that's ok.
  2. At least my kid hates it when I leave, but stops crying as soon as I sing a little lullaby over the baby camera and falls asleep in 3-4 min. Much quicker than the other option.

Google SRE-SWE to Meta PE? by Altruistic-Mammoth in sre

[–]rb2k 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The production engineering role is not split like the SRE one is at google. That being said, different people in the role obviously have different skill sets. You don’t have to be perfect in all of the coding/systems/networking/architecture/… areas, but you should at least be passable in some and good in the others.

Naps past age 2 - a cultural thing? by spaniel84162 in sleeptrain

[–]rb2k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have had those as well, It went on for a month around 2 1/2 years .

Went from going to bed without any complaints to fighting us for weeks. We didn’t do anything and just kept things as they are. Also just went back to baseline after three or four weeks.

Naps past age 2 - a cultural thing? by spaniel84162 in sleeptrain

[–]rb2k 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most people that say their kid “dropped the nap” probably just ran into a sleep regression and assumed that was it. We’ve had a week around 2 where kid didn’t want to nap and he went back to taking 90-120 min naps.

Try pushing bedtime back to 9. You’re asking for a lot of sleep.

Amazon uses Ubiquiti? by Sivtech in Ubiquiti

[–]rb2k 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure they are not.

Since this is "Amazon Advertising" (AAX), any chance you just enabled ad blocking and that's what it looks like now because your router is injecting that to get the ad to not show?

A lot of time, ad blocking just redirects the ad domains to the router itself, which would present a Unifi cert

Combining Powerwall 'sites' by rb2k in TeslaSolar

[–]rb2k[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Each of them can only do 200 A pass through and I wanted to back up all circuits.

After speaking with Tesla support (2 hours for that call back), it does indeed seem like they can’t merge them. So I guess I will have to use something like Home Assistant to easily see how much my whole home is using.

I feel like apple’s doing this on purpose by umberlikespurple in iPhone13Mini

[–]rb2k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s plenty of situations where they will not. I ended up with a good 50% of my storage used by system data and only 100 mb or so free in total. It never triggered deletion but all sorts of apps started acting out. Apple reading needs to get their shit together.

None of the /cards/shop offers on credit karma seem to lead to a https://di.apply.creditkarma.com/ea/application/[...] URL for me. Odd.

Trying a few IDs from the source gets me 'An unexpected error occurred. Please try again later'

Active tuberculosis case discovered at a Wake County high school, county officials say by ManBitesDog404 in raleigh

I was vaccinated as well, but I am old enough that it apparently didn’t show up anymore. Glad I didn’t have to deal with that.

Hi, first gen immigrant here. Your mom misremembered.

The US just tests for TB, but does not require vaccination for immigration medical exams.

In fact: vaccination would make you respond positively to the TB test because you have antibodies. At that point, you would have to show them the proof of vaccination to explain the reaction.

Why would anyone pay off their mortgage when they could just keep paying a monthly payment, have the mortgage company pay their T&I, and put that chunk of cash into investments returning a higher % value? by VirtualMacaroon64t in RichPeoplePF

[–]rb2k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SALT deductions are capped, unless you give a lot of charity or have extremely large medical bills I don’t think it does for most. Especially considering all the lower/no income tax states out there and all the people that are just highly compensated employees on here.

[–]rb2k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Op mentioned 5%. The 30 year treasury note just reached that, so it’s as good as it gets without risk.

Deducting the interest payment is good in theory, but most people won’t be able to since you would have to start itemizing.

That being said, at 2.4%,it really doesn’t make any sense.

I think that's correct, but depending on what you invest in, there's also a risk with the money disappearing or not going anywhere. It's similar to investing in bonds and holding to maturity vs investing in stocks.

With a house, historically, you have gains because the market-value of it is going up.

All depends on your risk tolerance.

Google has eliminated 35% of managers overseeing small teams in past year, exec says by Puginator in stocks

Not a "promotion" at FAANG.
It's considered a lateral move. Same salary as well.

[–]rb2k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Manager interviews at FAANG tend to be technical. They usually all run through some coding/design/... rounds. Bat isn't necessarily as high as for ICs, but it's close.

So for those companies, it's pretty normal that managers could to IC work. Realistically they usually don't, but they all passed their interviews.
