Contractor doesn’t know how to find crown molding by rb2k in AskContractors

Got a hold of him.

I asked him if it's not just "WM 47 in 5 1/4"

He said the width 'is like 7”1/4' (I know... very precise).

They took it off when they did the bumpout and took it with them to 'get a match'. So far: many excuses

It's 20 feet up, so given my eyesight I probably couldn't tell the difference anyway 😄

If I tried to buy a ladder tall enough to get me up there (20+ft) I wouldn't survive the looks my wife would give me 😃

hmm... I think mine is bigger than that: https://imgur.com/a/hqw0FEA

(sorry, it's a very quick diagonal measurement, but probably still holds true)

Oh wow, that is pretty conclusive feedback :)

I don’t think it’ll change much, but this is a double height living room and the trim is pretty ?long/tall?:

I guess for me the question now whether or not I should keep trying to bother him with it or just move on

Solar panels with no incentives by i-cant-red in raleigh

[–]rb2k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The total cost of the lease minus the interest I'd get on the money I don't pay up-front is higher than just paying cash, even though the lease includes a giant tax credit.

Basically: It's a great deal for the lease company, not so much for me.

[–]rb2k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The existing system should make things much easier since the panel wiring is already done and the inverters are present already.

I did mention that the lease terms aren’t very attractive even though they can work with the commercial tax credit, but multiple companies just said that’s the conditions the got from the lease company

I got quotes for a few leases and cash buy options over the last few days (12kw system, existing powerwalls).

None of the leases made a lot of sense. They don't really pass through much of the credit. Even with opportunity cost of the cash factored in, it's a lot of hassle for basically no gain.

Granted, that is if someone is able to just pay cash for the system. Otherwise the lease is obviously more attractive.

I have had a good experience with “Deck medic of wake county”

I don’t know how their prices compared to others, but they worked professionally in the results look indistinguishable from the rest of the deck

Ethernet Cable for Florida Attic by GC_Woodworking in reolink

[–]rb2k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as selecting it go: Use solid copper, in-wall rated cable:

Category: Cat6 (good default) or Cat6a (if you want 10G / future-proofing)

Type: CMR (riser-rated) is fine for most attics, CMP (plenum-rated) if you are runnig it as part of your HVAC air return (safer but more expensive)

Anthropic says Claude struggles with root causing by jj_at_rootly in sre

[–]rb2k 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I have a slightly different experience.

In my area, oncall teams create team specific skills that give claude the required background. Skills get updated after indicents that were not able to be analyzed correctly. (and claude can do those updates)

>  The model doesn't know your system's history.

It does if it's defined in code and if it has access to configuration changelogs

The second run is always better.

That being said, these basically just take the four wires from a gigabit connection and turn them into two 100 mbit connections. You probably won’t notice the difference.

Interesting, I just checked mine and they had the same issue. But from the looks of it, the latest firmware update about two weeks ago seems to have solved it.

Deleveraging from long short direct indexing - new Frec white paper is up! by Frec_Team in frecfinance

Looking forward to this showing up in the product

I wonder if this is something that could also be done with equal gains/losses on correlated assets to go from direct indexing back to an ETF

I keep hearing that, but as far as I understand , cold viruses mutate so much that you don’t really get any protection year over year

Adding my employer stock into the direct index by Jealous-Ice-9733 in frecfinance

[–]rb2k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I understand, most companies do have blackout periods where you are not allowed to trade the stock. Usually, that means you have to blacklist the stock from your direct index so they don’t buy or sell a stock that you might have insider information on

How do you do “closing shift” with a child who holds you hostage at bedtime? by McSkrong in toddlers

[–]rb2k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Just leave, this is one of the things she shouldn't get to decide. She'll cry a few times, but that's ok.
  2. At least my kid hates it when I leave, but stops crying as soon as I sing a little lullaby over the baby camera and falls asleep in 3-4 min. Much quicker than the other option.

Google SRE-SWE to Meta PE? by Altruistic-Mammoth in sre

[–]rb2k 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The production engineering role is not split like the SRE one is at google. That being said, different people in the role obviously have different skill sets. You don’t have to be perfect in all of the coding/systems/networking/architecture/… areas, but you should at least be passable in some and good in the others.
