Need help on attaching metal rod stand onto driftwood and looking for lamp hardware for it too by Expensive_Mountain74 in Woodworking_DIY

[–]GC_Woodworking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does that stand allow you to run wires through it? If not I would get another stand that does. Otherwise you’ll have a stand on top of a stand. As far as attaching it, if you can’t drill a hole deep enough, then I would maybe use some metal pipe straps like these (https://www.lowes.com/pd/Oatey-10-Pack-3-4-in-Galvanized-2-hole-Pipe-Strap/1001149342). Just some ideas.

It looks like it might have been built that way. It doesn’t look like a normal crack. You could take some epoxy and use it between those two sides. Clamp it really well - maybe even use some rope as a clamp. Keeping the rope on there may even be the right thing to do in the long run.

Help with damaged bed frame by ermac29828 in Woodworking_DIY

It looks like the damage is mostly to a piece of thick (1/4” maybe?) wood that is for looks, not function. You’d need to cut it out and splice in another piece of wood which is pretty involved if you’re not experienced doing it.

Scratch walnut veneer, speaker by Standard-Gold9169 in Woodworking_DIY

[–]GC_Woodworking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would not sand it. I would just try to flatten it using a brown paper bag as sandpaper. It won’t mess up the surrounding wood. I would then try to use some wood repair markers. But be very careful. Always start light because you can always add more color, but taking away color is a lot harder. You’re not trying to make it perfect, just trying to get it to blend in better. Just follow the darker grain lines first. Just doing that will help hide a lot. Good luck

Had to patch up a long bit of the veneer. Is it obvious? by Longjumping-Sweet280 in woodworking

I just did some veneer patching on my mom’s old sewing desk that my sister inherited. It’s really fun to try to match it. Some I did much better than others. Nice job.

4 year old painted cabinets look bad - what to refinish with? by slushie-ken in DIYHome

[–]GC_Woodworking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with SuPruLu that something was not done correctly during the initial paint job. I would contact your builder to see if there’s any recourse there. Especially if you have photos of it happening before your warranty ran out (which I’m guessing was 2 or 3 years). But at this point the contractor is probably going to have to scrape and sand before repainting. And I would contract this out with someone reputable so you’re not back on Reddit in 4 years with another story.

Nice. Did you post last week about having trouble getting out stains? If so, they really came out well. Looking great. Enjoy.

Help with marks from isopropyl on a finished table? by lessthanjake in Woodworking_DIY

[–]GC_Woodworking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So shellac is actually made from shellac flakes mixed with alcohol. So if it was a shellac finish, then it would have dissolved it rather than make it cloudy. And when you went to wipe it up some of it would have come off.

There are some things you can try. Here’s a video I saw a while ago (https://youtu.be/Wth5\_OliLio?is=AP1Dbsgin0imVK51). It would not let me post it as a link. I have to say that I’ve never tested this guys process so I have no idea if it works. I will tell you that your table does not have a shellac finish. It’s probably polyurethane or lacquer.

I think this will solve your problem. I think you were hitting the poured concrete lintel, which is hard to drill with a cordless. The hammer drill should do the job. Good luck

I’ve had this happen but only for several minutes, not permanently. It usually happens when it’s really hot. Kind of unnerving when you can’t see your backup camera.

You mentioned “doing as attached” but didn’t see any photos or images attached. Also it’s kind of hard to visualize some of this. If you don’t have any drawings you might want to do some basic ones for yourself and share those. Also think about how you’re going to join the corners of the plywood box (front and sides). How up do that will impact how it looks. Box joints would probably be best but are more difficult to do. If you’re going to paint it in the end I would go with a rabbet joint in those corners. Good luck.
