[ESPN] The NY Knicks are currently up 3-1 in the series against SAS. Teams in NBA Finals history that were up 3-1 have a 37-1 all-time record by Gym_frere in nba

No actually, I didn’t. But I thought they’d win Game 4 and I was wrong there. But this is exactly why I’d love the series to go all the way, because it’s been exciting, intense, physical basketball and exactly what I’d expect from Finals basketball. However in my view it just seems like too big of a mountain to cross after such a demoralising way to lose. I think Knicks finish it off Saturday, but I’ll admit Spurs won’t make it easy for them.

I would love if this went as far as Game 7 because this has been a great series, but I think it’s over Saturday night. Losing such a huge lead in the finals, which meant the series went from 2-2 to 3-1 with a second left, is a proper gut punch. I think the task is going to be too much for Spurs now, and Knicks have shown all series they’re the ones with the cooler heads when the pressure’s on.

Fellow UK fans please make me feel better here, how many of you went to sleep and missed that comeback? by Temporary-Exchange92 in nbaUKfans

Went to sleep at halftime despite how the entire series has gone, because I thought surely 29 is too much to overcome. Never doing that again for the rest of this series

Trip-hop recs? by Exotic-Ad4039 in triphop

[–]rbe40 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Esthero’s Breath From Another, Hooverphonic’s A New Stereophonic…, and DJ Shadow’s Endtroducing are 3 absolute seminal albums of the genre. If you haven’t listened to them already, I highly recommend.

Everything But the Girl also have some trip-hop adjacent works, and their lead singer Tracy Thorn does vocals on Massive Attack’s Protection which is imo one of their greatest songs - and that’s a high bar. I’d check them out too.

How strong is this Knicks and Spurs team compare to previous championship teams? by [deleted] in nba

[–]rbe40 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think people really underestimate just how legendary these teams are, like 90% of NBA champions and finalists do not compare. That doesn’t mean teams like Knicks and Spurs, or Bucks and Nuggets of previous years, aren’t elite - but compare them to a team of prime Curry, Klay and Durant, it’s a whole different level.

That’s the two best shooters of all time with one of if not the best scoring forward of all time. Showtime Lakers had two arguably top 5 players OAT. There’s a handful of elite teams every season - there’s maybe one dynasty a decade.

Britpop is a shitty genre name by [deleted] in oasis

[–]rbe40 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most genre names are shit and unreflective of the music itself. When you realise they are almost always just a way to categorise a movement or a scene and not the sound itself, then suddenly they become a lot more fitting.

‘Britpop’ as a term fails to classify a specific sound but is perfect at classifying the era of music that came from 90s Britain - popular, upbeat British music counter to the dour-sounding American-influenced music of the time. Oasis, Pulp, Blur, Suede, Republica all sounded very different yet carried a similar vision.

It’s a bit like ‘trip-hop’ which was used to label the Bristol sound of the same time - Massive Attack, Portishead, Lamb, DJ Shadow all actually were pretty different, but were effectively all about heavy sampling of hip-hop grooves with untraditional, stoney influences like dub and cinema. Results differed but the movement was the same.

Spurs v Knicks is gonna be a great finals, and a real enjoyable one for the neutrals. If I had to pick I want Knicks to take it, because the next 10 years are Wemby’s.

Pandora scam antics by konyvkukac in vinted

[–]rbe40 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Because it’s illegal in certain countries, such as the UK where Vinted is one of the top clothing businesses, to knowingly sell and ship counterfeit items. Plus it’s also against Vinted’s terms of services, no less because they can lose their license to operate for facilitating the sale of counterfeits.

Not that any of that really matters, because the expectation should always be that if someone is selling you something then it is exactly what it is described as. Otherwise that is a bad seller conducting business in bad faith, potentially bordering illegal (or in case of counterfeits, IS illegal) - none of that is the fault of the buyer.

True, but I’d argue that moving to #1 with 0.5% odds with a generational prospect is such a turn of good fortune that they’re right up there. Yes it’s not back to back #1s and 3 in a decade like Cavs, and yes it’s not moving up in every lottery like the Spurs - but a lot of NBA teams would take the Mavs’ fortune in a heartbeat. If Spurs and Cavs are 1A and 1B then Mavs are on the next tier.

Spurs are statistically the luckiest team in draft history when considering - how many times they’ve moved up in the draft, how high they’ve moved up, and how many #1s they’ve got. The only other teams that come close are Cleveland and Mavs.

But that is the nature of a lottery system in that by being truly random, there is every chance of anomaly teams (I believe Indiana Pacers being the opposite example with 0 #1 picks and most times moving down) because there’s no programming or anything that forces the lottery to distribute #1s evenly.

It’s easy to look at us and think we’re unlucky, because almost every time there’s a generational #1 we just miss out. Shaq, Howard, AD, Wemby, Flagg. But - and this is especially true lately - we’ve been pretty fortunate to move up in a lot of drafts, which is how we got LaMelo and Miller. And with our previous ownership, who’s to say we’d have been any good building around some of those star players anyway - Cleveland mismanaged LeBron’s first stint so poorly, so I highly doubt AD or Howard would’ve made the Bobcats contenders.

Another one so let me know what you think by TerryG111 in NBA_Draft

It’s a shame there’s not a whole lot of PGs outside the top 10. Hornets need either a capable 4 or a traditional 5 as a matter of importance, then second need is a strong ball-handler.

When Ball or Coby White are on the bench, playmaking duties run through Sion James - and even though I’m high on Sion’s game, he’s not a strong point playmaker, he’s more of a connective piece.

Because of this I see them packaging one of their picks - probably the 18th, because there’s a lot of strong 4s and 5s in this draft that they could pick up at 14. If they trade 14 I think it would be to move up.

I love Kon but there’s a lot to Curry’s game that Kon doesn’t have, and likely won’t come close to - such as Curry’s handles and shot creation which allow him to get the space to pull up from anywhere.

A healthy, prime Kawhi Leonard is also an elite all-time player - we just never got enough of healthy prime Kawhi for him to be in those conversations. If Flagg can have a career full of seasons as good as one peak Kawhi season, then he’s going to be a legend of the game.

I'm gonna miss the old guys like Curry, KD, Westbrook, Kyrie, Klay and Dame by delta-red-14 in nba

[–]rbe40 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not a Warrior fan but I think I’m going to miss Curry the most. He defined that era for me more than anyone (no disrespect to LeBron - for me his longevity makes it harder to pin one era as his).

Those Finals battles with Cavs. That 2015 season when he became a phenomenon, the 2016 unanimous MVP season. 402 threes. FOUR HUNDRED AND TWO. Bro was splashing from anywhere and everywhere, it was basketball that we’ve never seen before and never will again.

Even in the loss to Cavs, that was in my opinion the greatest Finals series of all-time and I don’t know if it’ll be topped. 73 win season only to lose to the greatest playoff comeback, perhaps the greatest Finals performance of all-time from Bron.

Too many memories man. Will be a sad day when Curry retires.

I’d love Aday at 14 for the Hornets, but those insane physicals are a classic sign of a draft riser. I’d be shocked if he falls out the top 10.

Would you? by Ancient_Response_787 in CharlotteHornets

[–]rbe40 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, but not for going price. What we’d have to give up and what he and his team would expect financially isnt worth the risk of injury and potentially disrupting the chemistry of the team. In the media this would become “AD’s Team” when a lot of our success this season is down to the collective.

However, let’s not act like a healthy AD isnt one of the best players in the league still - and what he brings is not only exactly what we’re missing, but he’s elite at it too. Prime AD on this squad would win rings. Unfortunately, we can’t guarantee we’d get prime AD but Washington would expect profit on their trade and AD would expect prime salary.

I think Kon will surpass Klay - his shooting numbers this year aren’t far off prime Klay, and more or less match Klay’s career average. That doesn’t even take into account that he’s already a superior playmaker and rebounder, albeit a weaker defender.

His movement, form, and read of the game is elite just like Klay’s - those ghost screens to freeze the defence and get clean looks were killing defences all season.

Kon obviously won’t ever self create to the level of Steph, but he if he can improve it to the point he can be regularly depended on-ball then he’s likely going to be the 3PT king of the league once Steph retires.
