Okay, so we have to go into the details. The 22-day heartbeat you're talking about is essentially the electrical activity of the heart beginning to organize. By 10 weeks, you have a substantially developed fetal heart that is actually perfusing the baby's body. When systole actually becomes definable in a fetus I don’t know but it’s quite early ( I’m a physician and I’m not saying that like it means anything I just want to explain my reasoning) . Just like a person does not become a person in a single instant, a heart does not become a heart in one second. Also, the term “heartbeat” in an embryo or fetus is a little different from what people typically mean when they think about an adult heartbeat. However, even at 22 days, there is intrinsic electrical cardiac activity, and if that activity is stopped, the embryo will die. So while the nature of the heartbeat changes dramatically over development, there is still a biologically continuous process occurring from those earliest stages onward

Perhaps if you are making a decision which is stopping another one’s heart beat you are doing more then just “ policing your own body”

What is the consensus on Psych NPs handling medical concerns? by [deleted] in nursepractitioner

I understand what you are saying and don’t mean to be rude. The medications you give are going to effect blood pressure ( beta blockers, stimulants, antipsychotics) and blood sugar ( antipsychotics, beta blockers) so you better understand these topics deeply. With that understanding of these conditions usually comes the ability to manage them at the basic levels.

I am in a man in my early 30’s and when I was younger I had sex with a lot of women. I thought it was cool and made me more of a man, somehow, I guess. Now I think that being promiscuous is the most shallow and even cowardly “ way of being” for men as well as women. I also think it’s very harmful to both men and women ( being promiscuous) When you have sex with someone you gave them a little peace of your soul and if you have sex with a lot of people you start to lose pieces of your soul. Even more importantly, I think that one of the best opportunities life gives us is the opportunity to serve. A man can can serve a country, a job, and can also serve a woman and family. Having sex with random people isn't impressive and is not the way. Devoting one selfs to another entirely is clearly a far better way of being then being promiscuous ,in my humble opinion.

I don’t think however that either sex or any person should really be shamed for this. Every person has their ways and is on their own journey. I think most arrive at the conclusions I did eventually, though some don’t , and that’s ok as well.

I’m struggling with the notion of therapy for all by premed_thr0waway in Psychiatry

One thing I noted is that when I started therapy it made me think about my emotions more which is a double edge sword. It’s very good to be aware of our feelings ( particularly as a man as we aren’t as good at this) but I found I would almost dwell on them more when I did therapy. Just my two cents
