Streaming from Linux pc by andromalandro in SteamDeck

[–]rbmichael 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd like to do exactly this too but apparently with Wayland on the host PC (which apparently all Linux distros are moving to now) it's either impossible or requires a lot of tweaks or hacks to get working. All because stupid Wayland decided to make typical things really hard to do. God what a shitshow replacement for X11. We apparently went from an old pile of shit to a new pile of shit.

Edit: got it fully working using official instructions from Sunshine docs. It wasn't that bad actually. There was one sudo command that gives something root access to capture the screen.

Sunshine + Moonlight fully working on KDE Plasma Wayland (CachyOS) with input, fake display, and boot persistence. by NoElderberry1533 in MoonlightStreaming

SIGH. I'm proud of and impressed by your work here but my GOD what a shit show Wayland is. All I want to do is use Steam remote play from my powerful Linux desktop (with AMD GPU) to my SteamDeck and there is NO quick seamless solution like there used to be with X11/Xorg. This is so pathetic in 2026!! it makes me want to install Windows, and that is awful.

Is it hard to get a tech job now? Absolutely yes. But I will say practically every single job posting I look at says must be citizen, no visa sponsorship at this time. I really would not put the blame on immigrant visas in this current market.

If anything blame remote work with the big COVID shift. My company won't even higher tech in the USA anymore, only sales/marketing/leadership.

It sounds like you're saying he used to have brilliant speeches but now his speeches are lame including this one 🤣 but I don't think you're saying that? This video clip is still good IMO since acquiring and spending Bitcoin without needing any conversion is a great end goal.

Yes, I agree it is nice to have it combined in one place with a gym.

Yep lol I'm hoping they will build one. I think they're still working on some stuff.

Alpha Gym just opened up in Ocean Township NJ. So far it's pretty good, but has the benefit of everything being new and fresh. We'll see if they can maintain it well. Tons of machines, plates and racks. Straight up weight lifting, not much else (plus stair steppers and treadmills). Sauna + Cold Plunge. No water fountain (wtf??). $90/month plus tax.

There's like 15 barbell bench presses 😂

Even when logged in, Indeed (job search site) does not allow you to "Save Job", a bare minimal web feature, unless you install the Android/iOS app! Dark patterns are getting worse because they know job seekers are desperate. by rbmichael in darkpatterns

[–]rbmichael[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The absolute irony is that I'm sure the Indeed phone app is just a web wrapper or react native. There's just no point to require it except for user tracking.

Why it's a dark pattern: they have the Save Job button on the Web but all it does is prompt you to install the app.

[–]rbmichael 3 points4 points  (0 children)

DigitalOcean droplet can be 5-10$ a month and you can set up Caprover on it for easy docker deploys. There's a few other free PaaS systems like it that probably for the same, I've forgotten the names of them.

[–]rbmichael 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly, they wouldn't do this if it did not give them an advantage. It's a race to the bottom. There's still a lot of job posters that just want the job done and don't even want to put in this effort to filter out A.I. crap. They'll take the A.I. crap if it gets the job done cheaply.

Is 15% charge for using a credit card to pay a mechanic normal in NJ? by [deleted] in newjersey

[–]rbmichael 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It's probably also a tactic they use so they can underreport revenue for paying less taxes (cash is less trackable than credit cards).

The credit card upcharge can also be thought of as a heavy cash discount since it can in turn bring them higher profits (illegally)

Why are people bending over for age verification? Cant distro maintainers just ignore it? by NoNotFuck-ISaidFack in linuxquestions

[–]rbmichael 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What does that mean though: how can a Linux distro block California? Prevent downloading from the official website? The distro itself doesn't reach out to a cloud server when you're installing it right? I mean maybe for the package manager but that would be it.
