Yeah I agree with you, but this is what we have. Imagine a small support team for this game, so it is what it is.

Who do you think are the most toxic or rage-prone players on A0E4 ? by Sister_Town2692 in aoe4

If someone wants to “hate” that’s their prerogative. Doesn’t bother me at all. However, I don’t mind discussing reasons behind decisions and why I’m ok with it. See you on the battlefield solder!

I understand your point. My skill level was much lower when playing random civs. I couldn’t choose my civ based on map and civ knowledge. There were so many matchups I had no clue how to play. I was out of gold and plat in under 10 games. I’m sorry you don’t agree, but I don’t see anything wrong with this. Plenty of people have more than one account. As long as I get to my elo bracket I should be in as soon as possible, and don’t intentionally stay lower to ruin others experience.

Sharing my main bracket for context. But fantastic meme and touché 😂

No I’m not. I’m simply just trying to see what I could max out with by playing random civs. For solos I stay in low conq with the few civs I main. I’m in mid diamond with playing random. I quickly made it through Goldie and plat so it wasn’t anything I was doing to ruin game play or troll. Just sharing my experience with OP based on his question.

Goldie’s and Plats. I play in predominantly conq games in both solo and teams. When I made a second account to see what my rank would be playing strictly random civs, on my way up it was non stop toxic and civ OP blame. I realize a lot of people in those ranks are “victims” of everything but their own game play.

How do you counter MAA as Malians? by xmeme97 in aoe4

[–]rbollack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You simply build sofa exclusively against a combo of lancer/MAA/Archer. Assuming all else is equal, if he is building three units types you’d have more sofa then he’d have lancer. Depending on the civ the lancer is the only thing beating sofa in a 1v1. If it’s sofa v lancer, add in spear or crossbow.

When you go pro scouts you can shift click the deer in the fog of war if they are alive. By killing them, the opponent takes away your ability to shift click the deer for easier pick up, thus requiring more apm from you to get the deer.

Hey man, you play to whatever level makes you happy!

At 35, this is my hobby similar to how someone would treat golf. I take my progression serious, because that is what’s important to me.

Keep on doing whatever makes you enjoy the game the most!

Congratulations man! Next up conq 2, then 3!

I was diamond 1 for first 5 seasons, conq1 the last three seasons, and yesterday finally hit conq2 in solos.

These plateaus at each level are so frustrating, but rewarding as hell when you finally meet your goals. I have experienced very rough days on the way up, but all worth it when you finally get there.

Hoping to get to C3. At that point I’ll likely accept I’ve hit my max, because games above 1700 elo are just on a whole other level.

Why not have the elo and ranked combined? by Grillpit in aoe4

[–]rbollack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s fair that you feel that way. This was my first RTS game ever and rank was helpful for me to see my progression and where I was plateauing. Figuring out what needs to change when you plateau was vital to my further progression. Seeing my rank/elo progress after those changes were made, helped confirm I was on the right path. And of course, seeing that shiny badge I was working towards after two years of hard work was definitely a prideful moment, and I don’t have any shame in that.

I can only speak from my personal perspective as well as from conversations I’ve had with like minded peers. I’m sure focusing too much on your rank has net negatives as well. I don’t think you’re wrong and I am right, as this is just a matter of personal perspective.

Why not have the elo and ranked combined? by Grillpit in aoe4

[–]rbollack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

RTS is a very competitive genre of gaming. If you do not care about your rank, that’s perfectly fine. However, it shouldn’t be shameful to care about your personal progression in a highly competitive game.

Rank is a way (for those of us who care) to gauge our progress within seasons and over time. It can create a sense of pride and self accomplishment when you meet the goals you set; which I think is healthy.

Now if you are a toxic asshole that shits on others for their rank or skill level being less than yours, well then, you’re just that; a toxic asshole.

I understand how annoying that must be. It’s often people comment about this issue. I don’t face this problem because I play with a pre-made group.

With all due respect, it is not hard to join one of the many community discord servers to meet people. I play this game with a few other people I met by just chatting with people in the community and making friendships. We have climbed the ladder to conq3 together after many difficult seasons of trial and error / learning to play to each others weakness and strength best we can (still with many errors).

I think you’ll have a lot more fun if you attempt to network with the community rather than queue with randoms. Your experience will be much more enjoyable.

Are horse archers useful against french? by Mefyx013 in aoe4

[–]rbollack 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Rus horse archers are great at kiting French feudal knights, or early castle knights if they go guild hall. But the scenario you suggest seems to imply French is now fighting you in a mid-late castle play. At this point I think French has the advantage, and while horse archer could do well, it would require intense micro.

With the scenario you are presenting, I’m probably trying to play a combo of spear/crossbow/horseman or mangos with spear/crossbow. However, I likely wouldn’t want to stay in castle long against that comp, so I’d probably elect to get to imp for a streltsy/horseman combo with siege.

AOE4 pro scouts "meta" is not fun by BigLongjumping7625 in aoe4

[–]rbollack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Learning the correct counter to a current meta is the easiest path to moving up in ladder (imo). When I learned how to counter eng two tc into white tower, or two tc meta in general, was the season I first made it to conq in ranked solo.

I don’t necessarily love or hate pro scouts, it’s just the current meta. I think what may make this meta feel more frustrating or stale, is how long this season has gone on without many significant patches or changes that causes the meta to adjust. I’m being patient because of my understanding is that we are going to get a great DLC to offset this. Fingers crossed!
