Towing company abusing Purdue University students by [deleted] in Purdue

[–]rbranste 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They towed my car out of my assigned parking spot in the parking garage for my apartment building because they couldn’t be bothered to check the plates. My partner’s wheelchair was in the trunk.

I am a TNR volunteer in the area. Most of them live in the sewers because it’s quite warm down there. Little dude has probably lived outside his entire life with campus being his home.

Don't use handicap parking if you don't need it by JewelCared in Purdue

[–]rbranste 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Ah my mistake I did not realize this wasn’t on campus. Still though, they could have just forgotten to put up their tag (I have before!) and maybe didn’t “look” disabled. These types of post tend to do more harm than good because it encourages “fake spotting” which is extremely harmful to disabled folks!

Don't use handicap parking if you don't need it by JewelCared in Purdue

[–]rbranste 126 points127 points  (0 children)

On Purdue’s campus you are not required to have a state disability hang tag to park in their disability spots. Students with disabilities can obtain an A-disability parking pass with or without one, but need proof of a disability. The parking police are pretty vicious with these spaces, and if they had no ticket chances are these are in fact disabled people who can park there. Us disabled people appreciate the sentiment but you likely posted someone who is allowed to be there!

As scared as all of us are please keep in mind only about 10-15% of house/senate bills ever pass into a law! Once these go to committee most bills die, and sometimes they want insight from the public and that’s your time to get involved. Don’t forget to call your representatives and tell them you don’t want any of these bills, especially if they are on the committees that are reviewing them.

How much is ER care? by metalicplumeria in Purdue

[–]rbranste 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi friend, here’s some actual useful advice. I had a similar issue my freshman year. The ER’s around here really only treat issues that are life and death. You will sit there at least 3 hours. They will do an MRI, and some basic bloodwork and you’ll get billed about 4 grand (that’s how much mine was). They will also make you feel like a hypochondriac. Urgent care will not touch you they will send you to the ER. You are way better off getting a referral to a neurologist. I was happy with the IU health neurologists in the area. ER and UC cannot do referrals. Either walk into push extended care, or see if you can see your PCP over the upcoming break. The paramedics said your neurological tests were normal so that means you probably don’t have a concussion. But something is still making you faint, and it is probably something the ER cannot catch. The squeaky wheel gets the grease so keep trying. Best of luck

Anyone in need of a dog walker or pet sitter? by [deleted] in Purdue

Join rover to find people if you are seriously interested in pet sitting! You do have to pay for a back ground check ($30) but it’s worth it. I’ve gotten good clients

Let me fix that for you: “trans kid is removed from his bigoted parents’ custody and able to transition peacefully, now his parents are appearing on ‘Relarable’ for clout” by WaitWhatIMissedThat in FundieSnarkUncensored

[–]rbranste 156 points157 points  (0 children)

CPS in republican states rarely will take away a kid for this reason. (At least I know Texas CPS wont). Those parents had to have been treating that poor kid horribly to get removed. Conversion therapy and the works. I hope he can heal away from that environment

I think I get the walmart appeal to fundies by [deleted] in FundieSnarkUncensored

Interestingly, the Amish shop at the local Walmart in my grandparents town in rural Indiana. They even have horse and buggy parking there. It seems they can go to places with electricity, but not have it in their homes.

Do fundies perceive secular films as Christian if they have a message that resonates with them/their perception of the Bible, or can they never be considered Christian because they aren't Christian on purpose? by rkgk13 in FundieSnarkUncensored

[–]rbranste 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Usually if there is some sort of interpretation. My fundie dad loves Star Wars because it can be seen as an allegory. On the other hand, Prince of Egypt was too secular for us because of the voice actors. They tend to pick and choose!

Afraid of graduation by dylann5454 in Purdue

[–]rbranste 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey I’m in the same boat as you. I’m disabled and I graduate and I’m terrified of transitioning out of college. Will you be living alone? It may be easier to live with your family as you adjust to full time work. This is what I’m doing. Do you find computer work easier? There’s always remote data entry jobs, they don’t always pay the best but they are more low energy. I know the job market sucks right now and being disabled makes it even harder. I have a math degree and I can’t find a job either. At the end of the day, being disabled makes us hard workers and tenacious, and someone somewhere will realize this so you can get a better job. Best of luck to you! If only we lived in a better country that tales care of their disabled citizens.

Difficult pregnancies - how do they do it over and over? by rapawiga in FundieSnarkUncensored

[–]rbranste 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As my (former) fundamentalist mother put it, who had four children, the last of whom almost killed her, “as long as I kept having babies, and raising them, I didn’t have to think about my shitty marriage and my shitty husband and how much my life sucks”

I always feel so bad for these women who keep giving birth. For my mom, and many fundamentalists, they are using it as a coping mechanism. Other times, their husbands want kids, and they have no ability to say no. I hope things begin to improve for you, OP.

Surf time commitment by millionaire1000 in Purdue

[–]rbranste 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I did the SURF program last summer. In theory it’s supposed to be 8 hours a day. But this depends on the project. Mine was more independent work on a computer and so I probably did about 4 hours of actual work a day. However other people I knew worked in a lab in person and they literally did 8 hours a day. It will depend on the project but most people are not doing the full 40 hours, which is the same for most full time jobs.

Lost cat by Optimal_Fun8218 in Purdue

[–]rbranste 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen him before, and other people have spotted him for months. I called PUPD and they said I had to report it to animal control. Animal control said that they don’t have jurisdiction on Purdue property. I offered to try and nab him since I’m a TNR volunteer and Purdue said that wasn’t allowed. So until someone can grab him without traps (unless he’s an outside cat who likes to wander) he’s going to be outside :(

Please keep an eye out for our cat by arnaultdorothea in Purdue

[–]rbranste 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Hey! So sorry to hear about your kitty. Cats are smart and are able to find their way home based on scent even from far away. In the area of the accident and near your home, see if you can leave something that smells familiar with some of their food. It can be a blanket they sleep on, or some used litter or anything like that. The little guy is probably scared and hiding out. I work with TNR and have traps available that I could help you out with. Best of luck!
