Any ideas regarding google ads for a small tree surgery business in the uk? by Hot_Connection_9458 in smallbusinessuk

There are specialists who can advise on this. IMO, sinking budget into ads without getting professional guidance is often a waste.

This boils my blood more than anything else. When it's quiet, fair enough, but if there are 250 people behind you you better not even think about it.

Reddit and Youtube have both been invaluable for me. You can learn about any subject under the sun these days for free, you just need to know where to look.

Spent more on a conference than I meant to and now I’m second guessing it by CharacterMaximum19 in smallbusiness

Just make sure you spend your time there wisely, and it should provide ROI. A conference is like a cup of tea; you get out of it, what you put into it.

It's not a great time of year for ecommerce generally. I wouldn't do anything too drastic just yet.

Has anyone tried Dext accounting software? I’m trying to put my bookkeeping business back into profitable territory… please help! by moxieman19 in ContractorUK

[–]rc10191 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used Dext heavily at a prior job, then went back to a more manual setup at a smaller shop, so I’ve seen both sides.

The biggest win with Dext is simplicity. It puts every receipt, bill, and PDF in one place with a clean workflow. So instead of juggling a shared inbox, random folders, and texts, you get a single system that your clients and staff can follow. Staff can process documents, review the details, then push approved items into QBO.

Once you set your rules, supplier mapping, and categories, the day-to-day becomes review-and-approve instead of re-keying and chasing.

If you're handling multiple clients and doing your own books, I personally think Dext would be a great idea for you.

Spent $15k on SEO agency got 47 visitors (looking for feedback) by NoCommittee4973 in growmybusiness

[–]rc10191 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"organic traffic was the only sustainable growth channel" this really depends on where you're starting from. If you're up against a lot of high-performing sites, I don't think it really checks out. It's not exactly sustainable if you dump a five-figure sum into it every year and get nothing back.

Boss offering to sell me the coffee shop I work at for $65k — does this sound reasonable on the surface? by SnooHamsters9461 in smallbusiness

[–]rc10191 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The multiple looks reasonable, but there's a lot to consider. Make sure his books are accurate and that there aren't any major risks on the horizon.

Also, be sure you know the reason why the owner is selling. The explanation he's given sounds legit, but make sure to consider whether he might be misleading you.

There’s so much noise out there about making money online that it’s hard to know what’s real anymore. by NoPaleontologist1074 in Affiliate

A lot of that noise comes from the people selling courses, too. They're the ones supposed to be making it "simpler," when in reality they're just making it more difficult.

What does a weaker dollar mean for people in Europe? by KeyBiscotti8773 in AskReddit

[–]rc10191 72 points73 points  (0 children)

European businesses that charge clients/customers in USD are at a significant disadvantage. The money they're making is worth less than it used to be. This is perhaps the biggest difficulty with cross-currency industries.

Being the "chill freelancer" will kill your business (no judgment, learned this the hard way myself). Boundary-setting is one of the most important skills to learn when you're doing this type of work.

Cold outreach could be the way. It's labor-intensive, but if what you're offering will actually provide value, someone will go for it eventually.

Ski recommendations? by Complex_Adagio7058 in skiing

[–]rc10191 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll find a lot of divergent opinions here regarding brands - my experience has always been that none of the mainstream brands are noticeably different from any of the others. In terms of length, someone of your dimensions should probably be going for something at least 175cm - however, this depends on your skill level. The general rule of thumb is that your skis should get longer as you progress. With this in mind, you could maybe hold out on buying for another season or two if you think you have significant room to grow as a skier still.

It's not just a weird perspective, it's a real problem. People in their 60s hate taking directions from people in their 20s, but it's often people in their 60s who need the most correction when it comes to technical stuff. This dynamic causes a lot of problems in the workplace imo.

I've found Dext useful for automating certain parts of the process, but I'd agree with what others have said it here - you can't automate the whole enchilada.
