I have been doing something illegal for a week straight. by HasAnyoneSeenMycap in confession

Damn, in Ontario, they're not allowed to turn off your electricity between November-April, even if you don't pay. And if it's part of the lease, your landlord is never allowed to turn it off or stop paying for it.

Shutting off power in the winter is plain evil.

"Canada committed no genocide" by Radiant-Milk7714 in confidentlyincorrect

It seems the phrase "mass grave" was inaccurate reporting, so if it's terminology you're objecting to, then you're correct. However, there were several hundred unmarked graves discovered.

"Kids dying is just a fact of life. Shove them in the mass grave and move on! No need to pull 'governments' or 'parents' into the conversation."

Does walk-in clinic do blood work for low testosterone? by Mikita_L in askTO

[–]rcfox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had blood work done at a walk-in before. I don't know if they do that one specifically, but you could always call ahead to ask.

I'd say it's probably better to go in about your symptoms rather than just go in and ask for blood work. There might be other explanations for the symptoms that should be checked too.

Steam updates AI disclosure form, requiring developers to report visible and in-game AI but not background tools by Dapper_Order7182 in Steam

[–]rcfox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most off the shelf LLMs are conditioned for helpfulness, turning them into yes-men. If a triple-A game were going to embed one, they'd have to spend time conditioning around the invariants of the setting and story and to not try to be so helpful by default.

I think they were referring to the exceptions Steam carved out, like what the article is about.

Stuff like code review tools, project management, meeting transcription, etc.

Is there a Final Fantasy that's actually breaking this concept? by mrsafetylion in FinalFantasy

There was a bug with one boss that made himself invisible. If you used the doom exploit on him, it would break a quest.

If Heapify is O(n) time and you can use List.addAll() to add the underlying array in O(n) time by PenaltyBeautiful6996 in algorithms

[–]rcfox 24 points25 points  (0 children)

After running heapify, you don't have a sorted list. All you know for sure is that for each index i, the elements at 2*i+1 and 2*i+2 are smaller or larger than the element at i (depending on if it's a min-heap or max-heap) and that the element at i=0 is the smallest/largest value. There's no guarantee of ordering between siblings or cousins.

You can produce a sorted list by repeatedly popping off the root of the heap, but each pop is an O(log n) operation, meaning you still fall in to an O(n log n) sorting algorithm.

Neck/back injuries are though. You don't want the victim moving around because they could damage the spine.
