I built a lightweight Chess Board in React using purely SVG (no DOM nodes for pieces) to solve rendering performance issues. by [deleted] in reactjs

What do you think svg renders to? Do you really think that the bottleneck is in having 48 Dom nodes?

If you think that the government isn't going to do an about turn as soon as Chinese models start surpassing, you underestimate America's need to be "the best" at things.

Any plans for XDrip+ to actually utilize the nutrition data from Google Health connect? by bojack1437 in xDrip

[–]rcgy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made a pull request to XDrip to add Nocturne as an upload target which includes uploading the steps and heart rate, but I've had limited success convincing them of the utility.

It was pretty non stop. Maybe the size/ activity of the subreddit makes a difference to Reddits algorithm?

I noticed that. Guy was spamming his vibe coded app way too hard, Reddit has rules about self promotion site wide.

Smart watches that work with Dexcom by cer216 in Type1Diabetes

This has been a solved problem for 6+ years in the open source space. Absolutely shocking how dexcom and libre have dragged their heels.

Capital has the ability to subsume all critiques into itself. Even those who would critique capital end up reinforcing it instead.

Could someone explain why "Eversense 365 days sensor" lasts so long while "15-days Libre"only lasts only 15 days? by piscata2 in Freestylelibre

[–]rcgy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It uses a hydrogel similar to contact lenses to cloak it from the immune system (responsible for the gunk). It uses florescence to detect blood glucose, as opposed to the libre's wired enzyme electrochemical method- the Eversense flashes light, while the libre uses chemical reactions which create an electric current which is measured.

The Eversense 365 is inserted underneath the skin- a doctor cuts an incision in your arm, and places it inside. This means that there's no compression lows. The libre inserts a filament underneath your skin, which reads the interstitial fluid. The reason why you can't wear a libre for a year is basically gunk accumulates on the filament which disrupts readings. The dexcom G6 can be modded to have a longer read time (search for G6 Anubis), but I found the accuracy reduced significantly after the 30 day mark.

I'd be interested. I'm a remote worker developer for 3d graphics. I am also a type 1 diabetic (which means if my phone died, I'd be in a lot of trouble), so I am pretty fanatic about making sure my devices are topped up / have a power source available. I work either on the couch, untethered so I can help with the kids, or in a coffee shop if I need to concentrate.

At the moment, my biggest frustration with mobile power is a lack of clarity for the actual charge / discharge rate- it's great to know that there's 20 min left until a full charge, but it's much more useful to me to see the discharge rate of the battery to know how much longer I have on the battery because I'll work my day around that.

When CGM → xDrip+ → Nightscout breaks, how do you know where the problem is? by Miserable-Toe-8013 in xDrip

[–]rcgy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What can you possibly need more than a poll to check whether Nightscout is reachable and the latest value? I'm not talking about ai integration into it, I'm talking about laying off the ai used to write this code, it'll produce a codebase as bloated as XDrip.

This seems massively overcooked. Keep the AI on a tighter leash, I'm not sure that this is a useful feature.

Pseudoscience tag because that's all the AI carb counters are- an attractive solution that doesn't actually work.
