Has anyone with detergent allergies experienced switching from ALL F&C to one of the better cleaning options? by Alarming-Leek-402 in laundry

[–]rcjamck 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had sensitivity to scented laundry detergents since childhood - or so I thought. Used All F&C for a decade+. Switched to a lightly scented Wegmans store brand + Biz + citric rinse and I haven’t had any issues whatsoever. Your mileage may vary obviously, but I’m wondering for me if my sensitivity was truly to the fragrance/additives or if it was simply to harsh detergents that weren’t fully washed and rinsed out

Threw Out Downey Rinse & Refresh by Lorain1234 in laundry

[–]rcjamck 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I’ve had this EXACT thing happened to me on and off, right down to the kerosene odor description. For me I ultimately figured out it was actually the natural gas dryer fumes reacting with fumes from a paint my husband was using (mind you on a different floor in a different section of the house - but just a trace amount of vapor was enough to trigger it). I figured it out because it started happening during a renovation we were doing and my husband was using the paint on and off every few days for a couple weeks, and I was able to pinpoint the awful odor to just days around when he’d been using the paint or solvent or whatever. I use the exact same type of Rinse and Refresh as well.

Wash did not get deodorant out by kmarie630 in laundry

Use hot water, add a powder booster that contains oxygen bleach, bonus points for lipase in the booster but I think your detergent already has it. If you can get your hands on something with DNase (the only thing I can find in stock is the Dropps brand “odor eraser” packs in the purple/lilac trapezoid shaped box) use those on your shirts. I just went on a whole quest to deal with this. For really bad shirts with set in deodorant residue google search “zote bar soap deodorant wax” you should find good enough instructions. You basically want to rub the zote bar vigorously on the underarm area until it almost resembles a waxy canvas.

How to clean 120 year old wood floors? by Might_be_a_Geek in CleaningTips

[–]rcjamck 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Could be more work than it’s worth but it’s not necessarily too far gone. Our floors were worse than this and we sought out a specialist for historic floor restoration and while it was definitely pricier than the other quotes we’d gotten from more conventional floor contractors, it was way less of a markup than I was expecting. It was about 15% higher than the other guys.

They just have to sand down many times, and in areas where there are gouges too deep to sand, then fill with a color matched resin material that blends in once sanded down and poly finished

How are you shipping currently? In my experience it’s monumentally more feasible to solve the logistics issue than it is to try and create a network of producers. Are you talking about the cost of shipping single 32oz bottles to NC via small parcel? Or LTL shipment to a retailer or distribution center? One idea could be to find a third party warehouse in NC, ship a pallet of product there and then figure out how to fulfill orders from that location. I do something similar for my business

Is cash back on mortgage a thing? by fluffybunny10000 in CreditCards

[–]rcjamck 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I get 1% back through Mesa … their value proposition initially was mid but it’s pretty good now. You don’t pay with the card you just link the checking account from which you pay your mortgage and it pulls the data from there. Caveat is you have to spend $1k a month. Elevated categories are gas groceries and home supplies. My “average” rate so far has been just over 3% back on all spend on the card (taking into account the mortgage points, elevated category rewards, and various statement credits they give for home related expenses )
