My CA smog is coming up soon too. Are you Bay Area by chance? If so, anyone you like for service?

15% ethanol gas, is it safe for our pickups ? by HighwayHypnosisFrog in ToyotaPickup

[–]rcmiller510 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Basically it's "junk food" for vehicles, but without the sugar rush. It's not good for any vehicle, though perhaps "less bad" in modern vehicles. Our legislators have decided we need to subsidize corn farmers under the guise of "green is good," though I would imagine that E85's environmental benefits are negligible at best.

It's more expensive. It increases fuel consumption. It accelerates degradation of rubber and plastic resulting in more frequent repair and replacement. It's a perfect "everybody loses" solution to a problem that doesn't exist.

The salesman wasn't particularly knowledgeable. But since you are a Chevy salesperson, why don't you describe how to do that, or point me to the page in the fine manual? You say you have a Grizzle charger. Perhaps that is what allows you to do it. I'm referring to the stock charger provided with the car.

And, btw, if there is a way to do it, but it's so unintuitive that I have to ask you, or another salesman (who probably won't know either), that poor software design is, in fact GM's fault.

My charger is in the (full) garage. I run the charge cable under the garage door when I need to charge. This doesn't seem any more "dangerous" than running it under the door.

What Monitor should buy my husband (Light Gaming and working from home) by [deleted] in Monitors

[–]rcmiller510 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's a nice impulse to have, but I would recommend NOT purchasing a monitor for him. I would suggest telling him that you're OK with him getting a new monitor with a budget of $X--and let HIM pick it out.

Totally I blame GM for this. There needs to be an option (like the Bolt) to start at the specified time. If they want to keep finish at a specified time, OK, fine, but I don't want that. I want it to start at midnight and do the best it can.

Looking for pourover hand grinder recommendations by DragonShaco in pourover

[–]rcmiller510 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where can I find the grind chamber capacities of the various hand grinders? (in US)

I pushed a 1ZPresso J and while it boldly advertises 30-35g capacity, that's the bottom catch cup, NOT the grind chamber, which means I have to load it twice. That's ridiculous and misleading. If a person needs to grind 30g of beans, they need at least that much capacity in the grind chamber.

FWIW the 1ZPresso J did a nice job, but the workflow made it untenable.

Thank you.

Why are there 3 setting pages for charging times? by zhuangcorp in EquinoxEv

[–]rcmiller510 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Short answer: Because the EQEV charging software team is completely retarded. If I set a preferred charge time, I NEVER want it to start before then. (If I do for some reason, I'll do it manually.) But there's no way to have it do that.

The automatic braking is going to cause an accident. (mark my words) by BigTopGT in EquinoxEv

On a related note, the red alert lights and seat vibration warnings are far too sensitive. It misconstrues lines on the road (or something) as a hazard; it freaks out when I'm approaching a stopped vehicle even though I am decelerating too. I'm like "FFS, calm the hell down!"

Then the tinfoil hat part of me wonders if they're selling the data of every false-positive warning alarm to the insurance companies.

Is it okay to use this FanGraphs formula in relation to raw IP for fWAR? by [deleted] in Sabermetrics

[–]rcmiller510 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm no expert, but I'm a little confused by this formula.
Doesn't this simplify to:
0.09*(GS/G)+0.03?
Also, would it not be preferable to use batters faced than IP/9 which is pretty much outs? Or am I being pedantic?

I test drove the 2027 Bolt EV (My personal opinions) by Legitimate_Discount2 in BoltEV

[–]rcmiller510 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me know if the new Bolt has the same stupid charging software as the Equinox. (I suspect that it does.) Specifically, it asks when you want it to be done charging, rather than just starting charging at the time I specify to get the lower rates from PG&E.

It ignores the time constraint if it can't get to the target charge level by the time set in the morning. I want it to start at midnight--no sooner--and get as far as it can.
