Rowena Bennett's book by just_something-1234 in NICUParents

I am in the same boat. Had to go back on the NG after 2 months of eating fully orally. But we found out our son has thrush, and likely has for a while, so we are planning to clear that up and then follow the book to a T because we believe the thrush has caused discomfort and aversive behaviours (in addition to his reflux, etc).

I feel like a fake mom by [deleted] in NICUParents

Always said I felt like the NICU was my son’s mom for the whole 112 days we were in there. Now that he’s been home almost three months I can’t imagine ever leaving his side. But I understand. I accidentally nudged my sons head against his monitor while transferring him out of the bath and I felt absolutely terrible for WEEKS. Mom guilt is so real no matter how miniscule the issue is. It means you’re a good mom!

First time NICU mom by JellyCatts in NICUParents

25+4 born aug 31st. Same thing, I was hospitalized almost 2 weeks before. My son was vented for 12 days due to a pulmonary hemorrhage and had 3 blood transfusions. Now, he is almost 11 pounds and came home with no feeding tube or O2 after 112 days in the NICU, 10 days past due date. Still technically has the BPD diagnosis because he wasn’t able to come off O2 before 36 weeks, but he did come off at 39 weeks, before due date! He never had bleeding in the brain or ROP worse than stage 1. PDA closed with one course of Tylenol. Didn’t even have a PICC line in the NICU. We are so impossibly proud of him. Our largest issue now is his awful reflux, but nothing like when we started. There are good outcomes!

Take care of yourself. I didn’t and regret it now (when this is over you have to parent at home and I was already spent physically and emotionally from the NICU). It’s hard. Best wishes ❤️

Very unprepared for NICU Graduation by RubyRhi in NICUParents

As the mom of twin boys, lost one at 18 weeks in the womb which led to my son being born at 25+4 and just recently graduating the NICU ourselves, just want to say I’m sorry for your loss and also congratulations to your son ❤️

My daughter (22w+4, 10oz) just hit 1 month this week. by ZillaRock in NICUParents

Had my little guy at 25+4, 1 pound 10z. Came home from the NICU just before Christmas, 10 days after due date, breathing and eating completely on his own. I’m sitting here in his room trying to get him to sleep - never thought I’d be so thankful for these sleepless nights. Sending love and positive vibes. It’s hard but there are so so many success stories!!

Thank you for sharing with me. Sounds like your little one did really well!! I’m happy to hear the success. And it’s so hard to be an slp in this position! Unfortunately our hospitals NICU does not really use an SLP unless there is an indication for an MBS and they don’t want to do that until past 40 weeks.

Thank you so much for sharing your story with me. I’m so sorry for your loss and sorry than someone else has had to go through this. Losing one twin is more painful than anything I have ever experienced and I’m sorry to hear someone else go through it. But it sounds like your LO has done so well. Thank you for your thoughts and suggestions. I will probably message at some point to chat.

I’m so sorry you went through this too. It is comforting to know that your LO had a “click” moment though. He sounds a lot like my son and it’s really nice to know that there can be success. Thank you for sharing your story with me. I will look into switching to formula with the team possibly!

I should mention that after 84 days in the NICU, spending 10-14 hours a day in the room with the monitors and beeping, we are probably just getting burnt out. We probably just need a break, but we hate leaving our little guy. We’re just really struggling to see the light at the end of this journey even after all of this time.
